I think it's a smoking mirror and the pens would like to move him for cap relief - homiedclown
Geno does have kind of a strange personality. But I can't imagine he and his agent are sitting around being miserable whilst drinking champagne from a giant silver cup AND getting paid very well.
Where would he want to be "The man". Calgary? Columbus? I don't buy it either. I also don't buy that Stamkos wants out either but we'll see.
1. vinny got tossed, stamkos looked up to him
2. st louis got screwed by yzerman, which led to the trade
3. low ball contract offered to him
it's the 24th hour, if they have not done a deal by now, I doubt it changes in the next 3 weeks
I would trade for his rights, 2016 3rd rd pick add the 2017 first rd pick if he signs, and lock him up now if I was murray - homiedclown
You have to assume that he wants to take a deal from Buffalo. Assuming GMTM hasn't committed any tampering, then Stamkos and his agent have to go off of rumors that have floated around the grapevine(and hockeybuzz) that the deal we will offer will be up to par. Otherwise you burn a 3rd rounder and end up looking like an idiot.
So Malkin is an unhappy camper? He wants to be "the man"? Poor baby. You could park my butt in Cindy's shadow any day of the week. - Buffalo--Sabres
by all accounts, he loves it there just fine as well.
i could see the team wanting to potentially dump him if things didnt work out as a means of a reset, since they would never trade crosby. but with the cup i think they will go status quo for a few more years. and i do think by the end of his contract it might be pretty untradeable at that point anyway.

now, fleury on the other hand. - stayinthefnnet
He's a goner. I don't know the cap situation but he would free up some room right?

id imagine he has to be.
i dont claim to know the personal agendas of some players, but if someone wanted to apply the needs to go and be the man logic to a player, it strikes me as more applicable to a healthy goalie who just watched his 22 year old and significantly cheaper replacement win the cup.
hell, even when they handed the cup to fleury he just looked so subdued and resigned to the fact.
moving fleury would create a hell of a lot of room. his contract is right around 5 mil. pens arent necessarily in salary hell, but thats a lot of help. i still think fleury is a pretty good goalie. that being said, i cant see the return being all of that great for a number of reasons. like you said, the cap space itself would be a positive thing.
