exactly you don't need to draft a defenseman in the first-round when you can get a quality one in the second one or even a franchise one as history has shown

Clayton Keller let's go

- GERBE!!!75PTS

Do you ever research these things, or is this something you just came up with as a catch phrase one day and stuck with and through repetition it's become fact to you?

I'm not saying there aren't good d-men in the 2nd or later, but I've just gone back and looked at all drafts from 2006-2013 (anything more recent is too small a sample size) and the overwhelming number of better defensemen are in the 1st round - kind of obvious I'd hope...but the way you throw this phrase out there makes me think you are under the impression that top pairing d-men around the league are equally found after the 1st as in the 1st.

For every Subban/Faulk type that you find in the 2nd or later rounds, there are probably 4-5 d-men drafted in the first round that are such safer bets at being the type of d-man to play on a team for a long time and succeed.

Look through these same drafts and count the number of very good or better d-men drafted Round 2 and later and tell me who you come up with and I'll do the work to compare who is found in round 1 and we'll see if it's worth avoiding taking a shot at what should be the better talent.

You all thought I over-reacted, but now you're coming around to my way of thinking.

EDIT:

His next post will identify three players in the 690 player NHL that are late round successful Dmen, and he will claim those three guys prove he is right.

Just keep seeing him say this spiel over and over the past few days and I believed it, figuring there were still lots of gems being found...but there really aren't once things are, ya know, actually looked at rather than blindly said.

Buffalo is not a place for paint parties, pool parties , loads of nightclubs on top of the buildings , hot girls ( playboy girls etc )

Buffalo is a place where you start a family and you raise your kids because you're sick of all that poop

It's a new day.

Post 2010, we hit (or look to have hit) on both defensemen taken in the 2nd or 3rd round. McCabe's in and Guhle seems to be a huge hit for a late 2nd rounder.. question is, do we ever see Martin? So far, 2/3 I'd say with a chance for 3/3.
