Trade: #Blackhawks get second-round pick (2016) and third-round pick (2017) from #Canes for Bryan Bickell and Teuvo Teravainen. - LeftCoaster
I was listening to 1040 this morning and heard Pratt say there wouldn't be any announcements on coaching hires or other moves out of respect to Howe and funeral happening today.
Canes had the cap space, good gamble. |

Why would Malkin want to go to Chicago and play behind Toews when the rumour was he wanted out of Pittsburgh because he was playing behind Crosby? |

I have no idea. I just posted it because he "broke" the trade to the Flames. |

Doesn't sound like a good fit for the Canucks. - LeftCoaster
Don't want him anyway. |

And after they trade for Malkin for they are going to sign Panarin to an $9 Million a year extension
$40 million cap hit for 4 players.

We don't have a 2nd round pick to offer.
Saw this on twitter:
Some recent #Blackhawks cap casualties:
Byfuglien
Campbell
Brouwer
Ladd
Bolland
Frolik
Leddy
Saad
Sharp
Oduya
Teravainen
(to be continued)
At the end of the day I think the Kane and Toews contract are going to kill that team. |

They won three Cups, they could not win again for years and I'm sure they'd be ok with it. But you're right, 21 million on two guys is steep!
Although, Crosby and Malkins contracts come to 19 million and they just won the Cup. |

I think the interesting part of both those examples is they are top paid players that can play together but are typically deployed on separate lines. Two stars capable of carrying a "first" line on their top two lines is instant depth. Canucks sorta had it in 2011 with Kesler supporting the twin line, and sometimes playing shifts with them when goals were needed. Perry/Getlaf, Thorton/Marleau (now maybe Pavelski/Couture), Seguin/Spezza and Kopitar/Carter are similar ideas but obviously not as effective |

I don't think so, the Hawks will still be one of the favourites to win the cup for the next few seasons. They have proven over and over that they can recharge and bring in different players to stay at a very high level. Even if they don't win another one with the core they've kept together, they won 3 since 2010, no other team can say that. I am sure you Canuck fans would be over the top with one. |

They have the best core in the league with Toews, Kane, Hossa Keith and Seabrook and they have been able to acquire good young assets with all the salary dumps so far.
I'm not slamming the team, I would love to have their core and playoff record from the last 6 years, I think it's just going to get harder for them going forward. Giving up TT just to get rid of Bickell has to hurt. |

The value of cap space. If the cap stays pretty much the same it becomes even more valuable. |

Cap space vs. TT
I understand cap space gives you more flexibility but in a cap system that puts heavy reliance on drafting a developing it hurts to have to trade a 21 year old 18th overall pick just to free up a couple of mill. |

TT had some good moments but he appears to be not well equipped to handle the heavier checking come playoff time. That may change over time or it may not. Getting rid of the Bicks contract is a huge step to enable other possible moves to improve the team. |

i'm pretty sure at this point, florida should just be detached from the mainland and allowed to drift away to sea.
thanks florida but we don't need your crazy any more. - RealityChecker
Can't let florida go, without their hockey team, canucks will have no one to trade with. |
