I really believe the Kings are keeping Brown. Why would they take away the C and then trade him? Why not just trade him? |

Curious if other fans would have wanted their team to trade a '16 2nd and a '17 3rd for Tuevo and Bickell... I think as a Leaf fan, I would have liked them to have made this same deal...
Not a huge fan of either guy - who knows what Tuevo will be, and like Bickell but the contract stinks... but in the world of "asset collection", I would have liked this... |

I believe the Kings are keeping him because they're stuck with him. No way anyone is trading for that contract without a huge amount of picks/prospects included. Look at what the hawks gave away to get rid of one year of Bickell at a lower cap hit than Brown. TT isnt the stud a lot of people thought he would be, but he still is young and has upside and the hawks got very little in return. |

Almost 5 mil in cap space, a locked up core, a chance to re sign Shaw, a 2nd and a 3rd. For being bent over the barrel, Stan did great here |

I agree. 'Canes come out on top, but they damn well should have due to the Hawks situation. Hawks did better than I expected in getting rid of Bickell. |

I'm not saying Stan did a bad job, he's clearly one of the best GMs in the league. I'm just saying he didn't get much in return for a young player who still has upside. He did it to free up cap space (rightfully so). But Bickell only had one year on his contract. For another team to absorb Brown's contract, for a player who is steadily declining and signed for much longer at a higher value, the Kings would have to give up a ton more than the hawks did with little to no return other than cap space. |

Is this the Flyer fan in you coming forward? This wishful thinking that Malkin gets dealt?
Why on Earth would the Pens trade Malkin? It makes ZERO sense.
Especially, why trade him to Chicago, when a Guy like Teravainen is exactly what youd have to expect in return.
The Pens dont want to trade Malkin, and by all accounts locally, he is very happy here. This sounds just like a Flyers fan hoping and praying Malkin gets traded rather than journalism. |

Throwing Malkin into this is blatant click baiting. He may be traded at some point but it's obviously not going to be to the Hawks. Eklund's right. They don't free up cap space for nothing. In this case it's to re-sign their RFAs which they couldn't afford without the move. Not to mention, Chicago freed up about half the space Malkin's contract would require. What three other guys are they getting rid of off of the NHL roster to accommodate him? Are they going to just release all of their RFAs? Why would they destroy their roster that has them competing for the cup yearly to grab Malkin? Why invent rumors that are so easily fact checked?
I come here for the fantasy that Ek's "rumors" offer, but it's not fun when the reality around these "rumors" is so blatant. |

As a pens fan living in Chicago, TT is a VERY small part of what I would want back for Malkin. There is just no way the Pens and Hawks match up as trade partners. Neither have what the other needs and no chance the hawks part with Toews or Kane. Pens want nothing to do with Hossa's contract, Panarin is only signed for one more year, Seabs doesn't fit their system, Crawford isn't needed. This is just EK making poop up for click bait to get people to read his nonsense articles. Hawks have their own players to sign and need help on the back end. This trade does none of that for them and saddles them with 30.5 mil for 3 forwards for the next 7 years.

I often like to think what this site would have been like in the 90's:
I'm quite certain that by mid June 1992, Ek would have reported that Ron Francis wanted to be "the guy" again because he was "the guy" in Hartford and now that he came to Pittsburgh and won two Stanley Cups, he wanted to be "the guy" again....and that he and the Penguins talked and that he'd given them a list of 5 teams he would accept a trade to including Philly, Philadephia, a city starting with P across the river from Camden, north Eddystone, PA and some place just east of Paoli. |

Despite the fact that Malkin can barely speak English after all this time, says he loves Pittsburgh and doesnt want to be "the guy" somewhere and would prefer to be left alone, I guess EK and his sources alone know the real story.
That or its all made up bullpoop. Not implying anything, just offering opposing views.... |

buying out brown is simply unfeasible from an economics standpoint, and has been covered numerous times. unless someone is willing to deal for him with picks/prospects to entice, or he gets taken in the expansion draft, the kings are stuck with him. - hiway39
THANK YOU. Anyone who thinks Brown might be bought out is an idiot. Kings don't want to be paying him for the next THIRTEEN years when he could easily be taken in the expansion draft or could be packaged in a trade in a few years. |
