How many have they really used?
I'm assuming since every team used the two compliance buyouts we aren't counting them. - mayorofangrytown
Teams that used 2 compliance buyouts - 9
Teams that used 0 compliance buyouts - 13 |

Hexy will want fair value or no deal. He said he's content to stay at 18 unless the right deal comes along. - dragonoffrost
Yeah I'd prefer to stay at 18 all things considered. |

I get you have to give value to get value but why does Schenn's name keep coming up.
Flyers just invested 5 development years in him. He's gradually built his game towards living up to the hype he once had. That hype was just as big if not bigger than anyone getting picked after #3 in this draft. |

3 (or 4) year deal coming this summer. Schenn's best years and he will be in Orange and Black |

Hey, really? No kidding? I really thought everyone had ponied up. I guess I was myopically watching the Flyers twist in the wind.
Huh... Thanks. I know a new thing. |

I want to keep Schenn, but :
A) His value has never been higher
B) contract talks could go sour
C) He's been links with trade rumors for years and it's fun to continue them (?) |

Man, it's crazy looking back at that and being disappointed/somewhat surprised that the Preds did match. But in hindsight as much as I like Weber, I'm now glad the Preds matched.
Looking ahead to the expansion draft, Weber doesn't have a NMC so they don't have to protect him. Is it crazy to think that Weber will be left unprotected so they can protect Josi, Ekholm, and Ellis? I don't see an expansion team picking a 30 year old d-man who's contract doesn't expire til 2026.
Edit: He'll be 31 in August so 32 before he ever skates for the expansion team. |

Yup the rhetoric that all the teams in the league have cap issues is largely conjecture and hyperbole. |

If a young forward with 20+ goals under his belt doesn't move you from 18 to 10 then just brush your hands together and walk away. Schenn +18 should move you into the top ten.
I don't think you're over valuing Schenn at all. - mayorofangrytown
I was thinking the second was the sweetener if Schenn doesn't sign with Col. Probably should have said conditional 2nd. |

We have to get the grass is greener on the other side player. The shiny new toy that is better than the toys we have. Etc, etc.

Here's one out of left field. I heard a lot of roasting of Weber near seasons end this year. They're at risk of losing one of 2 good young Dmen if they choose to protect Weber from expansion instead. If you're a team with the opportunity to take on that contract for a reasonable price, do you do it? Nashville may just bite the bullet instead of explaining why they traded the contract after paying the bulk of the money upfront. |

I've never understood the "value has never been higher" angle. Flyers have the leverage in contract negotiations for now.
