Man, it's crazy looking back at that and being disappointed/somewhat surprised that the Preds did match. But in hindsight as much as I like Weber, I'm now glad the Preds matched.
Looking ahead to the expansion draft, Weber doesn't have a NMC so they don't have to protect him. Is it crazy to think that Weber will be left unprotected so they can protect Josi, Ekholm, and Ellis? I don't see an expansion team picking a 30 year old d-man who's contract doesn't expire til 2026.
Edit: He'll be 31 in August so 32 before he ever skates for the expansion team. - five4fighting10
I have no doubt that Las Vegas would draft him. They would only have to deal with 1 year of inflated salary(12 million). Then the Salary get's very reasonable for the duration of the deal(6,6,6,6,3,1,1,1). I don't anticipate they will be a cap team any time soon, so this type of deal would be ideal for them. |

yeah exactly. but thats partly why i think the preds would protect him. theyve already paid so much into it, id be damned if i let another team scoop him and get the benefits of paying the back end of the deal.
and he is still marketable for nashville. at this point he may finally help bring in more money than he costs. |

So you're sure Murray is the real thing? Fleury held you guys in most of the season. He was your MVP at the mid point. You're sure you want to move on so quickly when you don't have to?
I mean you're trading Malkin right? |

put it this way. i dont WANT to trade him for a number of reasons. but the expansion draft sucks for them. there is risk involved in rolling exclusively with murray. but there is greater risk in my mind of losing murray to expansion.
i feel as though they have to go this route. fleury needs to be protected. so he needs to be moved. also, while not primarily for cap reasons, it will help that issue as well. |

I've never understood the "value has never been higher" angle. Flyers have the leverage in contract negotiations for now. - MJL
I only said it Bc he's coming off his best year. As well as him proving his worth/ability to step up. Flyers challenged him/asked more from him and he delivered. |

Unless the Flyers change their PP setup, Laughton can't replace White in that spot. Laughton is a LH shot. Need a RH shot for that spot, that's why White is there. What other RH shot on the roster last year, was a better choice in that down low spot on the 2nd PP unit? - MJL
well then you switch up ur strategy on the pp, u dont just plug in a guy cause he fits the handedness you need. our pp was stagnant all around last year, putting someone for this reason does not justify it. its not a coach putting his players in the best position to succeed.
or hes a crazy thought, have coots on the other half wall and reverse the entire umbrella. have a rh shot on the dots that coots can feed like G to schenn, maybe laughton goes there. couldve had gagner on the other half wall, and streit up top, or MDZ this year hopefully, maybe even Provy if he makes it, and put a guy like raffl there. or use cousins in the dots and put laughts in front of the net.
my point is that a guy who is offensively challenged should not be on the pp unit where offense is most definitely needed, and with our team inept at scoring, wouldnt it make sense to get as much offense on the pp unit, albeit if it works, not just forcing offensive guys out there. didnt cousins and laughton play on the same line a lot, and gagner? that would work for me |

I'm blanking on his concussion from Niskanen and how it happened, but his injury in the caps series was just an awkward collision on a competitive play. Pretty crazy now that I realize both his roughed up moments were against the Caps. I think fans should give him more time, he recently turned 22 and only has 1 full NHL season under him. I'm not worried about him and still think he's figuring out his game in the NHL. Time will tell. - arichardson22
i 100% agree, but as time will tell, if he doesnt get the opportunities to play with skilled players, he may never realize his full potential. i think we have something here, hopefully this year he gets the playing time so we can see what we have. no better time than now IMO |

I agree that you have to do something there. You can't lose one of them for nothing. But is it better to move Fleury at the draft when teams will pay bigger for the ability to have him start the season with them or do you temper that with the fact that you may be jumping the gun, hold onto both and move one of them at the trade deadline at a possible reduced cost while also protecting you team from the chance Murray can't pull the wagon 82 games. |

We're in agreement there. I think it becomes a tougher decision if Ellis and Ekholm elevate above his level this season. Which seems unlikely, fully expect them to protect Weber. However, unless there is a trade, Nashville will be losing a good top 4 defenseman. |
