Probably. I hate when teams trade for rights, but in Arizona's case they might need to do it to make a really good push on a player. |

We've been off Demers watch for a long time, breaux. You been dreaming about our Summerland vacation or something and not thinking straight? I think he's a really good player. But with AMac on the books and the influx of d we have, and with MDZ perhaps getting some more term, it never made sense.
Interesting they chose Demers (prolly) over Goligoski. I would've too, but they treated Goligoski like the #2 and Demers like #3. Age, etc....it made sense. But this is the team that traded for Kris Russell....how hilarious would it be if that's who they chose to resign instead? |

I wonder if Arz even signs him; he probably wants to go to a better team. They aren't exactly the free agent destination right now...I'm sure he can get something good on the market. |

Yeah, shallow market, he's a solid puck mover and offensive D....Arizona only has 3 guys signed, IIRC & one is Pronger |

If they didn't just hire their boy wonder, I'd love to make a trade with them. We have oodles and oodles of high quality d men up for grabs! |

Murray's glove hand is meh but he's so calm no matter what happens and when he gets down into the butterfly he's an animal. He's certainly not "unproven" but he also doesn't strike me as an elite #1 at this point in time either. Tough decision - Mordecai
true. but he doesnt necessarily have to be a top flight elite guy for this to work out. |

We can trade Morin for Domi!! ... Hindsight is a beautiful thing. Not saying I don't believe Morin can't be a player for the Flyers down the road but man Domi is really the kind of top 6 skill and jam that this team could have used going forward. |

It's interesting the first move the analytics guys makes is trying to convince a 30 year old dman to sign. I'm not trying to be snarky towards analytics. Just natural to assume gogo is going to get 5 years and some type of diminishing production from a player as he gets closers to mid 30s

I'm going to go out on a limb and say ol' Hockey Insider Steve Coates just gathered a list of his favorite big players and asked Hexy about them. |

Coates did know they were taking Morin and pretty much told everyone at the draft party at Xfinity in 2013. |

I'm a Stars fan as well. Lindy Ruffis not at all a fan of Demers. He was more like a 4-5 dman and never really had a chance of being resigned. They didn't choose Demers over GoGo. Actually, GoGo was the only one of our many FA dmen that really had a legit chance at being resigned.
They may take one last stab at Russel, but I don't think we can afford what he thinks he should be paid. If we didn't have Oduya, I'd say Russel is resigned no problem. For what its worth, I'd like to see them go for a much cheaper option like Schlemko.
Stars are in a very similar situation to the Flyers, especially on defense. They have gems with Klingberg, Johns, Lindell, and Honka. They really dont need to add any big names on D, just have to be patient with this group as they become better pro players. |

They are so far from the cap, it isn't an issue. He's a good 2/3 guy and has solid advanced stats....and as jsaq said, they have almost no d men signed, and certainly they have issue attracting free agents. They took a chance. A 31 year old quality d man is far from the worst signing for a floor team wanting to move soon to the next phase of their rebuild. They desperately desperately need d men. |

It would help OEL out tremendously. OEL, GoGo, and Murphy would each anchor an individual pairing on that defense. It would be huge for Phoenix to land GoGo. |

Russell is horrendous. He is AMac 2.0, except he is used in more offensive situations. Hell, Calgary used him more offensively than Gio and Brodie. He is a possession scourge who wrecks everyone he is with. You should hope he doesn't get resigned.
Whether Ruff is a fan of Demers, I'm a bit curious as to how he is used as a 4/5 d man. He seems firmly entrenched behind the top pairing as their #3. And really Goligoski performs no better possession wise, even getting to play with Klingberg vs. Demers with Oduya. Demers this season saw routine top 4 ES minutes in TOI and QoC (also highest D zone starts of the top 4), was #3 on PK and PP minutes. He didn't have a good statistical post season...but I'm sure it had nothing to do with spending most of it with Destroyer of Worlds and Stats, Kris Russell. |
