And Malkin's big issue is health. He's an MVP caliber player when healthy.

He's perfectly fine as a 2nd pairing RHD. I wouldn't even have an issue with him being over paid or inconsistent if it wasn't a combination of both those things + injuries.

You just can't miss the first 17 games of the year, and then be below average for the next 30 because you are recovering, when you are a top 35 paid D man.
