isn't his contract expiring the end of 2016-17 season? Then LV will be joining after that season?
or do I have it screwed up and LV is joining for this coming season? - hillbillydeluxe
My bad. I thought he had 2 years remaining.
On a side note. The stance by Green, I am good enough to be a head coach and wont consider assistant position, is reminding me of Eakins. |

Its going to be a tough battle this year. I can see top spot in the Pacific division coming down between Carlyle and Gully, uhh I mean Calgary and Anaheim - WhiteLie
You expect Anaheim to be good enough to win the division again? |

With GG gone does this mean the hand is weaker or the sword is stronger?

I wish they would update the cap central and put last season behind us already.
That is a bit surprising coming from Green, thought being with the nhl club would be more appealing. |

The sword is weaker. Correct Dragon? - CanuckDon
Nope, the hand is weaker, however Gudbranson makes the sword bigger, but not faster or sharper. |

Pfft Deboer neutralized him completely, but Tippet with his new position might be able to offer a few new strategy twists. WD and McClellan are going to have their work cut out this year - WhiteLie
You raise some valid points...my real question/ concern is who do the Canucks bring in as an assistant coach? If we pick somebody who understands advanced systems then we are likely a serious cup contender but if we hire another schmuck like Lidster we will be a lottery team again |

Exactly and to me this says a lot. Eakins was hired to the NHL as a flavor of the month coach much in the same way Green is being touted. Green doesn't want to get his feet wet for a few seasons as an assistant? Not good...

It's not fair to call him a schmuck, he's just smart in different areas. |

Losing gulutzen is going to hurt. I've always said he should have a bigger role behind the bench. Very active coach.
But it's done....cant change it. So who comes on board here? My vote would be a coach who has been HC previously and winding down a career (like a jacques martin type)....IF there are any of those available. |

With that in mind... wouldn't mind another schmuck behind the bench. Just one more lotto pick, I'm not greedy. |

One more year of WD and we get a good draftpick and a full scale coaching change. 2017 is when I see us starting to turn the corner. Unless JB goes and gets two top 6 guys... then were a non-competitive bubble team |

with the canucks history it would be nice to actually get a good coach staff and win for a number of years.

Depends on how he goes about it. Duchene is available and our 5OA could be used to get him. I know people want to keep it and draft/develope. But at 25 years old he can be our 1C for 5-8 more years. That is a long time to find a repalcement, and makes us competitive now and keeps us competitive after the sedins. Build something around 5OA+Burrows(cap dump) for Duchene and then send Higgins +2017 4th for a 6th in 2016 or 2017. Trade Hansen for a 1st or 2nd+, Sbisa for a 3rd. Sign Brouwer/Lucic.
Sedin-Sedin-Brouwer
Lucic-Duchene-Sutter
Baer-BoHo-Rodin/Etem
X-Granlund-Dorsett
JV starts in Utica or takes 4th line LW. Not ideal to trade our 5OA, but the proven quality of Duchene is worth the unproven quality of Tkachuk/Dubois. |

Agreed. I really think Yeo would have been a good signing, seems like he's going to be good for a long while and keeps mediocre teams in series they have no business being competitive in (really, the wild are much worse without him and don't see how losing that series was a let down at all before that two competitive years against CHi-town). It would be great, they're not that common unfortunately but maybe we'll get lucky. |
