You forget that Tanev is a top 2 defense. There are none on the Market. Rhd that are top 2 are always valuable and requires overpayment as well. Jones isn't yet a 1d and yet git traded for an established 1c - Retinalz
He's a top 2 on our team.....leaguewide he probably slots in 3/4 . |

Very few teams would have him as a #3. He was ranked in top 10 for defensive side of being a defenseman. If he could put up 40+ pts and 10+ goals he would be a legit #1. |

So what you're saying is it's either the top pick or the top prospect(not both).....then a prospect and a roster player. - golfingsince
Was trying to come up with a flames comparable ...Bennett and the pick with backs would be a bit much ...any of the other forward prospects aren't really higher end so I went with one of the two D we have. |

But he can't ...that's not his game ...which is why his value isn't as high as you think ...tanev is a 3/4 guy on any team and with the right #1 partner he is a #2 possibly |

I think you will see more point production from Tanev this year |

#1 D dominate games. They're capable of taking over at both ends of the rink. He doesn't do that at all. He's not as good as Hamhuis was and I don't even think it's that close. |

I could see it if he plays with the twins a lot ...maybe if bo has a breakout year and tanev gets a lot of secondary assists |

Read my post before you respond. I said IF he out up those offensive numbers. He already dominates in our end of the rink. This is why he is a legit #2. He just needs the offense to be considered a #1. |

Yes you can. Jones obviously has higher potential as a player and will hit it. But right now his defensive play is no better. |

I read your post.
He doesn't dominate at our end of the rink. He was the best defender on one of if not the worst D corps in the league last season. I also don't think his body and playing style allow him to eat the big minutes that a #1D does. |

The only players that dominate in our end of the rink are opposing forwards. |

He is a top 10 defenseman in our end of the ice. You underestimate him too much. And no I don't overestimate him at all. His teammates singled him out as an MVP at the world's. |

They called him an unsung hero. That's not quite an MVP award.
IF Chris Higgins could score 40 points he'd be a top 6 forward. |

Do you all feel GG is a good hire, and that he is much better prepared to lead after his AC stint? I don't know a lot about him, seemed like an off the board hire though. - FLflames34
He's a good hire. Good with youth…good work ethic and a fit to where Burke and Treliving want you to go…a players guy... Sucks to lose him in Van. |

Tanev is good no doubt but he's a second pairing defenseman currently. I do think he could become more and hopefully his shooting coach can give him enough direction this offseason to do so. It's not that we are under valuing him as much as we are just being more realistic in terms of his performance over the years. He prevents shots very well and has a calm cool edge about him that allows him to make solid passes out of the zone. If he reached 20 to 30 points next year then maybe you have a case but that is yet to be seen.

So Benning said they want a 20 -30 goal scorer from UFA and a two way forward. Sounds like they are ok with the D.
He also said they will draft an 18 year old and see in camp if he is ready or send him back for another year of JR. He gave high praises to Tkachuk
He almost slipped but I got the impression initiat contact had been made already , but we know that is illegal right |
