Generalfanager.com actually updated their site to show the projected cap just over 73M and Dupuis on LTIR, that left them with 2.4M in cap space. That's really not a bad position to be in for a team that just won the Cup and CAN return pretty much the exact roster, it puts them in the great position of having room to make upgrades if there are upgrades available and if not return a Cup winning roster nearly intact with plenty of cap space to upgrade during the season is necessary. I'd bet there isn't a GM in the league that wouldn't kill their wife to be in the position the Pens are in. - jaydogg1974
Unfortunately teams still know they have to trade fleury to protect Murray. But at least he doesn't HAVE to be traded before the season starts. Plus he's locked up for 3 more years. Guys like bishop and Elliot are UFAs next season so a team trading for them is risky |

I've brought up PFT Commenter a couple times on here. Pardon My Take is great if you can deal with Barstool Big Cat's douchebagery. You get some really cool candid interviews with guys. Ryan Whitney came on the other day and it was fantastic. Big Cat tried to get him to rip on Sid and he didn't take the bate at all but was quick to rip on Regis McGuirre |

This is why, to me, Calgary is the obvious choice to make a trade. They are in no bargaining position either considering they have no goalie at all signed up for next season, so the two are perfect trading partners. We have a goalie they need and they have lots of draft picks that we need. |

That's not how NMC's work, he doesn't and won't completely waive the clause and allow the Pens to move him anywhere, they will work out a deal with a team and then ask him to waive it to go to that team, it won't be an issue of the Pens doing right by him because the power of where he goes will always be in his hands and up to him to determine. - jaydogg1974
Sure, MAF could submit his 12 teams he won't go to, but if one of those 12 teams say hey, we want you to be our starter for the next 3 years, I bet he would have no issue with it, if there isn't much else out there. Ideal world, 2-3 teams on the list that he would go to, would want him to drive the price up some, but I just don't see that. I could see the Pens saying..hey, this is the only real offer we have gotten, would you go there? If not, you are stuck being the backup here....and in that case, I could see him saying yeah...make it happen. If there are multiple offers for him, and they are all pretty close to the same value, I could see the Pens asking MAF what team he would like to go to out of respect for what he has done for them. |

Ryan, that is not how you properly calculate the salary cap with the 5% escalator activated.
There is a formula that determines what the cap should be based on revenue. The 5% escalator is an increase of 5% on what the formula determines.
The formula determined that the cap should be $69.3M. The NHLPA will likely activate the escalator which increases that number by 5% to ~$72.8M. |

"General Fanager currently has the salary cap at 71.4M on the website. That isn't going to be the final number. The NHLPA just exercised the escalator clause to bump the cap up 5%. This move by the NHLPA could bring the cap ceiling up to 74.97M" |

would Penguins be interested in a trade like this?
Pavelec (900k retained), Perrault and Harkins for MAF and Fehr
Perrault would be a great top-9 addition, an upgrade over Fehr, as well Harkins provides some depth to the prospect pool. Pavelec can play mentor/backup to Murray.
Jets get a for sure #1 goalie so they don't have to rush Hellebuyck, Hutchinson or Comrie. Perrault traded gives more opportunity for Armia, Ehlers and Lowry to show what they can do offensively.
Pens also shed 1.75M off the cap while retaining all positional depth.
it's a hockey trade simply put. - LukeHerrington
Replace Harkins with Brendan Lemieux and its getting warmer. Purely from a standpoint of our team needs, that makes more sense. It's a big downgrade from Fleury to Pavelec. I like Perrault but he's pretty lateral to Fehr and has had injury issues. I just don't quite see Pittsburgh's incentive to do this. Need a sweetener imo. |

Hey, he was miles in front of the Johansson-Jones trade
Seriously, though. Inexplicably there are people who pay good money for his rumor chart. |

I'd like for JR to pull off a trade based around JvR and Fleury. Ek hasn't mentioned it yet so there's still a chance. |

If Toronto moves JVR it's gonna be for a 1D. I just don't see them moving JVR. Matthews has really accelerated their rebuild |

ive long wanted JVR on the team. but i feel like the guy who it would have to be worked out around would be maatta, depending on how toronot values him. |

He didn't end up playing again after the rehab anyway.... new coach brought in, tried to run out all older players and remove scholarships. Luckily if ya do the good old "threaten to sue" because he had no right, you kept it. He got his degree, which is all I was concerned with for my bro. - Guile
Glad to hear it ended up working out, as you said him getting the degree was the most important thing anyway.

Like I've said all along, we're fine with the cap. The only move we have to make is saying good bye to our good friend MAF because we need to protect Murr and it sounds like he's going to request out anyways. Him requesting a trade will make it easier to stomach from a personal fan standpoint. I'm gonna miss that goober. - Victoro311
I agree, it's more than likely that Fleury asks to be traded but just playing devil's advocate, they only need to protect Murray if they are 100% sure he's the long term goalie of the future and they're sure he will be selected, both of which have room for debate. While it's expected that Fleury will ask to be traded that assumption is being made on the fact that the fans assume he will be in the backup role or in a time share if he stays, if the organization isn't 100% sure that Murray is the goalie for the long haul or that Jarry will be at least as good if not better it's quite possible that they would/could offer MAF the 60/40 starter role next year or even the full time #1 while they attempt to flip Murray for a kings ransom in which cause MAF may be more than willing to return to the team he loves. Honestly we have no clue what the conversations are behind closed doors or even what the organizations thoughts/plans are going forward, most just assume because Murray is currently the apple of everyone's eye that it means the team has to love him and MAF has to and wants to go. |
