So who could we trade for Subban?

We just traded one of our top prospects and added a draft pick for Gudbranson......I know who i'd rather have.

Like it or not, they're much better positioned for the future than we are.

Why would you even bother drawing a comparison between EG and Subban?

Mostly because I was responding to a post saying they would trade one of their players for Subban.

Aside from that, there's no comparison.

BUF has 9 picks before Nux make their 3rd selection in next week's draft. Column here on playing catch up on rebuild

- LeftCoaster

I think Leafs also pick 9 times before Vancouver makes their 3rd pick. That said it's likely Vancouver will aquire some more picks gotta figure?

You are a tad negative these days...the Canucks have the makings of a good young D core and solid goaltending. With Boeser and PLD/ Tkachuck on the horizon I don't think our future is as bleak as you envision
- CanuckDon

Two years is a small window, the kids you mention take at least three years to hit their stride once they make the NHL, unless they surprise, which they could. Still, the Canucks need a number one center, can't win without one.

I like the future of the club with Benning drafting, I just see it being really good four to five years from now...not two.

Bottom 6 is an easy fix. They really just need a couple of guys on D.
- golfingsince

And a goalie.
And some forwards that backcheck.

They fact their good players are as good as they are kinda makes them well set up. Their management has to do the right things but that team definitely has some VERY nice pieces.

Benning wants to compete while the Sedins are there, thus he must pick well with the few picks he has!

I will admit that I may have been a little harsh on Ron tonight by giving him a one day ban, but I allowed history with him to influence my decision.

Before I was chosen as a ref I used to relish in trash talking the trolls that paid a visit, even our own posters with outrageous statements. Whiskey Tango criticized the same sentiment of sensitivity in a blog and longed for the old days of trash banter with trolls.

I think it's time for people to grow thick skin, this should be harmless fun, let's start treating it that way.

Cheers everyone, and I hope everyone understands and there's no hard feelings.

I think they will keep pushing for two years with the Sedins and then all bets are off. Although, with the way JB has acquired good young players it's not impossible for him to have a succession plan by then.

I agree that they have some nice pieces , so do a lot of other teams. I am not sold on Yak Nuge or Eberle. I don't see that as a solid playoff list

You seem to be of the opinion that we're going to improve immensely yet the Oilers will continue to suck. I don't see anything aside from being a home team fan (aka homer) that substantiates that.

I was referring more in the draft and development area. Their forwards are solid but the D is weak and can't be completely fixed in FA. I could see them finding another goalie this year though. Talbot won't do it for them. Maybe Andersen?

Yak I don't know. But Eberle and Nuge both don't need to be the guys, those are their secondary guys up front pretty much. which is kinda scary.

Most of the kids/forwards Benning has acquired thru trades aren't looking like top line guys, except Baertschi, who looks like he may be a good second line winger.

It's thru the draft he's gonna find his highend talent IMO.

Not homer at all they keep drafting forwards and pay very little attention to everything else. they can score goals but they cant defend.

I think the outlook towards the Oilers will change when they see what PC can do for then in next two years. He needs to draft some good D and find a starting goalie. Talbot hasn't proven he is one yet.

Like you always say, it's June, they've got plenty of time to make changes. Building is a process, they've got five main blocks from which to build.

I wouldn't say they only have three, but I view it more like they don't have a healthy balance of players. Too many chiefs and not enough Indians.
