Two sons, Darren and Brent.

Well then I guess we know how Bobby feels about there being another Bobby Orr.

By all accounts a pretty good skating big man who has a good first pass out of the zone and point shot. Already played for a few years in the KHL so if he turns out to be a good 3rd pairing dman who's physical I don't think any of us fans will kind. Not looking for Bobby Orr here.
- allsports

he'll surprise a lot of people. JB knew what he was doing picking him.

I am cautiously optimistic with this one.
I see another solid 3-4 Dman in Tree.
Still think we'll need a #1

Hal Gill was a pylon. I see tree more like Derian Hatcher.

Once the rules changed with clutching and grabbing Hatcher became worse than Hal Gill ...the new rules basically forced him into early retirement

Yep, and if you watched Tree play last season he has good speed for a bug man and closes in on forwards coming in. His reach is comparable to Chara and he uses his stick to his advantage. Once he gets used to how forwards come in off the rush he'll be just fine. I can't remember exactly but there was a game where a big forward came in and tried to give him a big hit and the guy just fell backwards after hitting him.

Yeah I thought he had pretty decent foot speed for a big guy ...not a Derian Hatcher that for sure

Goalie and D 10 times better? Don't think so, Talbot has pretty good upside , maybe better than Markstrom. Canucks D is no doubt better now but for how long? The Oilers are only a couple of really good D-men away from competing, the Canucks have some decent prospects but nothing proven like the Oilers have.
- HawkfaninBC

This is exactly it. And the fact that McJesus and Draisaitl (and new youth) have not been tainted by Eakins. Talbot has upside and McClellan and Chiarelli are NOT Eakins/Lowe/MacT what have you. I sense the Oil will be contending sooner than people think.

McDavid if healthy will win the scoring title this coming season.

I like the panthers

- VANTEL

Could the Panthers be just a reg. season team though? They looked bloody awful in the PO's and with Lou there I really can't see them going anywhere.

Hard to say after one appearance, but they could be. As we well know playoff teams and regular season teams are two different animals

I hope not but I could see Mcdavid next season after he's had a full season playing in the league.

I still think that until pc changes the core over the culture there won't change and winning will still be difficult. Hard to learn how to win when you've been losing your entire pro career there

Oilers core of 24-30 year olds are a bunch of no names and C type players once you take out Hall Eberle and Maroon.

Correct and now that Chiarelli has had a season to assess I can see changes coming.

Rob Peter to pay Paul.

No one is giving up a lot for Eberle RNH or Yak.

To get high returns it has to be Hall but then you create another hole.

Agree Eberle RNH and Yak might not garner a full return but one thing I can see is Chiarelli moving a few (if not all) to fill a few needs. Mostly on D. If Chiarelli doesn't pull the trigger and make something happen in this new year in their big new Arena then he will be viewed as no better than Lowe/MacT. He has to get something done. No choice.

Hall I don't think you move unless the return is Subban or something equally massive. 90 pt left wingers don't grow on trees he is easily a top 5-10 winger in the league now.

I think the same thing they'll move out these guys in a few trades. If pc can learn from what Benning did with the EG trade is that you have to overpay for D then he will get some trades done otherwise why would another manager agree to an equal hockey trade. You're looking to make yourselves better not "Rob Peter to pay Paul" exactly but they'll have to overpay to get what they want. The bottom dwellers don't have much leverage except "if you have cap space"

Let's sayOilers have 6 top end players. The popular Rumor last year was Eberle for Hamonic. So you get a Chris Tanev like comparable and lose one of your top players. You are still sitting at 6 good players.

One would have to think that Chiarelli is looking at Dmen that have more impact then Hamonic/Tanev types. I understand what you are saying that getting the return for guys like Eberle will be tough, but EDM has other assets to package up and move as well. He will have to overpay for a few top 4 Dmen but at this point I'm not sure he has a choice…Chiarelli has to get something done.
