Just to point out (seeing as I was one of the people who nearly threw the remote at the tv-screen when it first came out that we had a chance to move Miller, but didn't even look into it)...
The choice wasn't Lack vs. Miller.
Lack was $1.15 million, while Miller was 6. We had the choice of Lack + an extra $4.85 million vs. Ryan Miller plus zero.
Now, you can argue that Miller is a lot better than Lack. But, let's just see...
Lack: 2.81 GAA
Miller: 2.70 GAA
That's a difference of 9 goals over a season.
We spent just under $5 million to prevent 9 goals.
We could have given up those 9 goals - and used that $5 million to get players who could score and who would make significant upgrades to between 1 and 4 slots on our roster. The fact that Benning didn't even seem to realize this fact is worrying, to say the least.
For instance, we could have swapped out Yannick Weber - for Cody Franson - and still had $3 million left to play with! So, instead of Adam Cracknell, we could have had a Joel Ward and his 21 goals or Justin Williams and his 22, etc...
So, we could have given up 9 goals by keeping Lack (and it's questionable that Lack would have been worse than Miller, this might have been 0 goals), lost 0 goals from losing Weber, and lost 5 goals from losing Cracknell - and replaced it with 25 to 43 (or more) goals. Those 29 extra goals would have moved us into the playoffs...
We could have made an almost imperceptible change in our goaltending - but, made our team a hell of a lot better in the process - and our GM didn't even think about it... Uggh... - stringerbell
Get over it already. I would take Miller over Lack in a heartbeat but it wasn't even about them. Try Markstrom or Lack. |

I'd like more picks. Unfortunately looks like that won't be the case.
We had 2 2nds. Now we have 0. I'll stop. Won't bring up the TDL again. - storm88
We also had 0 3rds and now we have 1. Do you know the difference between the 3rd and 2nd? 9 spots. WHOOPTY DOOOOOOO.
Gudbranson trade was giving Florida a 2nd no matter what. Sucks it was this years, but if it wasn't this years, it would have been next years. Our defense is a bit more solidified.
On another note, man people in Hockey Futures are all retarded. All they know how to do is say "his advanced stats are bad, so he must be bad". They must think Yost is a god or something. |

Great. Though after 6 weeks off I have forgotten how physically demanding my job is. 3 days and everything is sore. |

IMO he'd be very very very wise, for the betterment of the future of the club, to make the selection at #5. - LeftCoaster
You are right, but if an offer blows our socks off, can you say no? |

I don't see anyone giving up a top six forward for the pick, can't even think of an example where a team did that? |

Drouin - thundachunk
Drouin-BoHo-JV would be a nice line. but at this point I would not do Drouin for 5OA by itself. |

I agree as well cuz Drouin costs too much.
Also TB will have to protect him for the expansion draft.
Tough cap times in TB also. |

For me Drouin is a more talented Baertchi. We need a play driving beast like PLD or Tkachuk more. This team needs size, grit and skill in the top 6 and our pick will address this deficiency |

I would look at Drouin+ for 5OA. But TB likely wouldn't do it as that plus would need to be their first this year, and maybe even more to "knock our socks off" |

I'd bring my own mini bar. Out in parking lot. With a generator and tv to watch the draft
just leave a cardboard cut out of yourself in your chair.
Speaking of which. I should make a run to the beer store. |

Holypoop man, shoulda, coulda, woulda...1st off it wasn't Miller vs Lack it was Markstrom vs Lack and I'd take Markstrom any day over the two.
We finally have a Gm that knows how to draft and yet some people can't stop the hate from getting their facts straight.
BTW...hello from Hecla Island Resort Manitoba, 6 more sleeps and I'm back on the best coast.. |
