It's pretty much like any town not like Edmonton or Winnipeg. Fans just think people will want to sign there, and take a discount. At least in the aforementioned cities most fans realize that unless greatness is pending or the money is absurd they'd rather take a job elsewhere in a completely different industry. - golfingsince
Nicest city to live in in Canada imo and one of the nicest (if not the nicest) out of all the NHL franchise cities. That's pretty much enough said. But I'm pretty biased towards favoring cities with good scenery/environment. |

Whistler/mountains are right there, US is right there, ocean is right there, island is right there, climate is very moderate (although rains too much sometimes, like today). |

Again Ron, I was looking for more of a hockey related answer.
I give full marks to Van for destination. Easy top 10 if not 5 in the NHL. |

Ottawa is an underrated city. Great place if you're a family man, but winter can be pretty cold.
Vancouver is a pretty sweet place though. Problem is, it doesn't offer obscurity like some of the US cities do. I think if I was a pro player i'd target the California teams, Florida teams and if I was single a place like NY. |

I didn't realize you have to be unique to offer a contract to a person looking for employment .

Yeah this was being mentioned a while back. I'm kinda disappointed honestly. Wonder if they will get another team in that arena. An AHL farm team for the Nucks there would be good but people were saying Utica is already in a pretty good spot. |

I think the point is that if 30 places are offering the same deal, what's unique about going to your destination. |

Fixed.
Honestly I think obscurity might be a little over-blown sometimes. In culturally diverse cities like Vancouver I think the vast majority of citizens don't even recognize a lot of the Nucks players. Especially new players or ones that aren't the face of the franchise. |

Well if you're competing with other teams for a players services, you have to have something else.

I wouldn't put Vancouver at the top of the family cities......that's for sure. Great place, spent 20 years there but i'd imagine there are a few places for sure that are more family oriented. |

I am discussing . I am not being a dink ,
There are about 50-70 positions available every year in the NHL .There are about 80 -90 people looking for a job. They don't have to be unique |

Except that you want the same 3-4 guys that everyone else does. You have posters talking about signing Erikkson and Brouwer, not Jeff Tambellini and Dylan Reese. |

From a hockey prospective, it's hard to say what we offer can't be beat by other teams. Although I think some are forgetting play time being pretty key and with a team like Canucks it's very possible to find some guys looking for a bigger role then to sit back seat to players on a contender.
Money and term always comes into play as well. I could see players playing with certain players being appealing and I think Vrbata signed for that reason initially.
We don't have anything incredibly appealing but it's not crazy to think we couldn't make the playoffs next year. A stretch sure but we made the playoffs the year before with a worse team. The wildcard addition to conferences made a huge difference in terms of teams sneaking in.
It is a beautiful place to live and regardless of it being said already, I could easily see that being a huge part of it. I don't dislike Alberta but it's night and day difference really. Most would prefer rain over snow any day of the week.
Other things that could be appealing is PP time, PK time, coaching (insert pun here), facilities, etc.
We all focus on the things we see but there is going to be many different things taken into consideration when making a decision to sign with a team. Especially when you could be there for a bigger term.
