Except that you want the same 3-4 guys that everyone else does. You have posters talking about signing Erikkson and Brouwer, not Jeff Tambellini and Dylan Reese. - Jeropotato
Buffalo who has a not so pretty city , finished last two years ago and still were able to sign one of the top 10 free agents Fransen . Edmonton signed Sekeres. San Jose signed Ward . Calgary signed Wideman.
Are we getting Stamkos ? No but neither are 29 other teams . |

From a hockey prospective, it's hard to say what we offer can't be beat by other teams. Although I think some are forgetting play time being pretty key and with a team like Canucks it's very possible to find some guys looking for a bigger role then to sit back seat to players on a contender.
Money and term always comes into play as well. I could see players playing with certain players being appealing and I think Vrbata signed for that reason initially.
We don't have anything incredibly appealing but it's not crazy to think we couldn't make the playoffs next year. A stretch sure but we made the playoffs the year before with a worse team. The wildcard addition to conferences made a huge difference in terms of teams sneaking in.
It is a beautiful place to live and regardless of it being said already, I could easily see that being a huge part of it. I don't dislike Alberta but it's night and day difference really. Most would prefer rain over snow any day of the week.
Other things that could be appealing is PP time, PK time, coaching (insert pun here), facilities, etc.
We all focus on the things we see but there is going to be many different things taken into consideration when making a decision to sign with a team. Especially when you could be there for a bigger term. - WhatTheNuck
(frank) that, snow a a bright sun and clear skies in the winter is way healthier than the soppy Vancouver winter.....but really, that is the only thing I think is better between the 2 areas.
Actually, Edmonton and Calgary didn't have winter this year. Just a lingering Autumn. Last year was mild as well.

Franson: Nobody wanted his price tag , had no choice as everyone else had their rosters filled by mid August when he signed.
Ward: everyone knew they would bounce back and be a great team.
Sekeras: McDavid
Wideman: other teams actually offered him ballpark money? Not likely.

Only high profile guy I can see getting at somewhat of a discount is Loui, because he plays with the twins. I still think we'd have to pay a pretty penny because he'd sign shorter term and want one more good contract out of it on the market. I don't see Lucic taking a discount. |

I have to fly into Edmonton twice a year and it's a pretty miserable (frank)ing place. No offense of course |

We are no more unique or no less unique than 25 other cities in the NHL . Eriksson is widely rumored coming here turning down a contract with BOSTON an original six East Coast team.
Oilers have McDavid Hall Draisitl and Nurse . Everyone else is rumored to be traded or looking for an upgrade. Four players don't make a team . |

Totally, but it's not for everyone. Great if you love live music and aren't a douchebag that expects valet parking, and doesn't mind partying in a garage once in a while. |

Yeah...we probably wouldn't roll in the same circles. The only people that go to Cactus Club are the wannabe Jersey Shore dorks and the Bimbos. |

Doesn't that make up about 80% of the population?
I've heard terrible thins about Edmonton from people that live or that have previously lived there. Others say they love it. |

It all depends. There are a lot of hillbilly idiots here that came from the sticks for the Oil money for sure, and it's mos def a blue collar town, so if that's too grimey for ya I get it. But it's actually pretty friendly over all.i work in construction and most people I meet on the job are pretty sensible and not red necks at all.
There's no mountains or oceans nearby and nothing can substitute that. I lived in Calgary before and hated it.
The funny thing is I hear lots of Vancouverites and Calgarians run down Edmonton but Edmontonians don't seem to care about other cities one way or the other. We just do our thing. |

Fair enough, but this has nothing to do with Edmonton. Nucks fans go on the offensive when they get asked what really isn't that tough a question. - Jeropotato
For Ericsson, we've got to hope he's a member of the Sedin fan club. Otherwise for him, or any other top tier free agent, we'll be over paying. |

IMO he'd be very very very wise, for the betterment of the future of the club, to make the selection at #5. - LeftCoaster

I hate wearing bug spray.....putting it on my children even less. So I make them wear long sleeves and pants and I sit around half naked taking all the bite while I roast them marshmallows on the fire. |
