When was the last time you saw all the high tech stuff in use? I'd rather somebody enjoying talking to players and management than the constant stream of negativity Mclean put out there.

So is it Strombo's fault that all of the producers behind the scenes tried to make him into the new Ron Mclean instead of playing to his strength's?

They did try to make it different and it didn't work, hence supposedly going back to what was working.

They used to cover all the latest rumours and everything but now all they do is play pretend hockey in the studio trying to teach kids why a certain play worked or didn't work.

Personally I'm more interested in seeing them break down plays and strategy than do league gossip. They should do tons of that stuff. That's part of what's good about Cherry, he actually talks about on ice tactics.

Oh, you mean the segment they call Headlines now? As for the pretend hockey, I seem to recall weekly segments with Mclean on the ice teaching kids different skills. Again, different, but still the same.

The suits were symptomatic of a "style over substance" approach. The fact is Strombo had absolutely NOTHING to say about hockey, other than being a complete and utter fanboy of various players. Just because you may not like Healey (which I don't either) shouldn't mean that you overlook the gross inadequacy of Strombo as a hockey announcer, and as you readily admit, the inadequacy of the entire broadcast team.

Fact is, I liked the guy's other program, The Hour, where he was great. But as a hockey guy?

Don't care about Stromboli one any or another but he was the host, not an insider or hockey announcer. What makes the show is the strength or weakness of those panelists. IMO

I'd love to see more of that with actual guys on the ice. Especially former players, get a few of them on the ice demonstrating things like it's a practice. They could tie it into recent games. That'd be great. Great for kids learning to play too. They could even do stuff about nutrition and off-ice training.

Until they do an overhaul on the supposed experts it won't matter, Strombo is the scapegoat which is too bad as Ron should never of been moved out as much as he was anyway. Watch as next year Oilers make the playoffs and possibly some more Canadian teams are more competitive then ratings will go up and this move will look so smart.

You know who is (frank)ing terrible at what they do now on TSN? Mike Johnson and whatshisname goalie guy, Jamie something. It's like they put an open audition out for former players to give their 2 cents, and maybe even call a game or 2. And only 2 put in for it.

It'd be funny if they just had some kind of robot host, like how Craig Ferguson had the Geoff the robot skeleton for his sidekick. I would love to read the internet comments about that. Do it with no explanation either.

The quality of "experts" dropped significantly with the addition of the Sportsnet crew. It's been pretty obvious to most people.

Yep, it's a shame. They messed up with McLean. They thought it would be a shoo-in that Duthie would come over and replace his as the new host. They figured he and several other TSN personalities would jump ship. Whoops!
