Only trade jvr for a proven player. #6 is nice and all, but could easily turn into nothing. Why trade a 30g guy for essentially a lottery ticket?

I would trade JVR for a defenceman or a goaltender, but not a forward. He's what you would be looking for when trading for a forward. |

Tavares is basically the type of guy you dream of getting with the #1 pick. I'm not sure Toronto wants a guy with 2 years left on his deal but that value is fine. |

In the cap era, a players age and contract control matters. Not a good deal when you look at it from an overall perspective instead of just the on ice product. If Tavares really is on the way out, Toronto may have just as good a shot at him as any other team out there. This deal makes absolutely no sense for Toronto imo. |
