I said it was fair value, not that Toronto should do it. There's a difference.
Tavares is 25, one year removed from finishing 2nd in points, and he has the best value cap hit in the entire league. If you want a guy like that you have to pay a massive amount. If the Islanders were desperate to move him sure his value would be lower but they aren't. - daeth

You (frank)er. Fine, best non entry level cap hit lol.
Seguin and Benn are damn close but I prefer Tavares as a player. |

I would love for Tavares or Stamkos to come here and Id want Tavares if had to pick from the two. Just dont want to wait 2 more years. After a decade plus of nothingness I have little patience. |

Tavares might come here and he might not, but if he does who do they jettison?
Stamkos or Mathews, cause he isn't playing 3rd line.
Frank it, just trade Mathews now. |

Sorry you misunderstood though. I said Stamkos or Tavares. We cant and shouldn't get both. I was just saying Id rather have Tavares, but I don't want to wait two years so might as well go after Stamkos now. I guess JT can be plan B in the future if we don't get Stamkos. Which is a long shot imo anyways. |

I know, was being sarcastic.
But, having both Stamkos and Tavares right now makes the Leafs contenders for at least the next 5 years.
If they find a goalie. |

No. There are some anti Stamkos Leaf fans who frequent this thread. I believe they are opposed because of weak reasons. I wouldn't sign Stamkos to an 11 mil per season deal, but he's going to get a high cap hit. Unless he says something like "I want to play in Toronto and play with a good team so I'm taking a discount and signing for 8 mil." Which won't happen. |

Just read in Eks blog that Hartnell waived his NTC. (It's not a trade rumor so I assume it to be true.)
He's a gritty winger with scoring ability....should the Leafs consider?
(I know some hate posting line ups, but wtf, just dumb fun for me.)
Hartnell, Stamkos, Marner
JVR, Matthews, Nylander
Brown, Kadri, Komarov
That looks pretty damn good.
I think you could flip JVR and Hartnell but I liked having a really gritty guy like Hartnell with Marner and a little more talent in JVR with Matthews and Willie.
I know Sosh usually gets slotted with Kadri, but I think it's time for Brown our homegrown, lunch pale guy.
Plus we are going to have to trade/lose some guys to upgrade D and G, so Sosh, Hyman, Leivo....guys like that might have to be included in a trade....especially one that gets rid of Bozak, Holland and a few other "must gos". |

I read an article where the writer suggested the Leafs protect Peter Holland from the expansion draft. I didn't read far enough to know if it was a joke or not. |

Wow. I don't hate Holland by any means, but that sounds like a bad joke?!
Holland just hasn't seemed to take the turn and I was routing for him. Guys like him and Bozak are just too vanilla to win with....by vanilla I mean not really talented and no personality, just meh.
(Komarov's is a guy on the same level talent wise that isn't vanilla. His personality is why he plays like he does....hits and agitates....and also why most people think he is better than he actually is. I like KomaGod and glad we have him but he's not oozing talent...it's personality.) |

In which injury shortened season did JVR become a great 1st liner? The closest to a 1st liner is when someone mentions him a 1 liner. - wreckage
Hes not a 1st liner? - nbboy
When healthy? On Toronto he is. On majority of the rest of the league, borderline. And in Toronto he might not be for much longer. - wreckage

I think if he's available (which he is), and you actually don't have to give up assets, then you'd be crazy not to throw money at him. Don't think he gets 11... but I wouldn't mind 9.5-10M . Not too often you find a superstar hit Free Agency like this, especially someone like Stamkos... We'll find out in 2 weeks! |

Wow. What an admission of a misstep by Rogers. I never hated or loved Strombo, but that's a bummer for the guy. To be fair to him like the article says, if the Leafs were good HNIC ratings would be huge, to an extent the host doesn't matter, it's about the games. It was kind of dumb for Rogers to think a host would bring a younger demographic. They are kind of helpless in this regard. The teams in their markets winning bring the audience, young and old. |
