On most competitive teams he's a bottom pairing guy. He could slide into the top 4 in case of injury and hold down the fort, but on the pens, he'd be Paired with Cole on the 3rd pairing.
I think demers would do well here, but he's probably going to get around the same contract (3-3.5 mil). I'd rather go with Schultz since we already know he fits in here - drummer829
I'm high on Schultz as well. Would love to see him back.

If we could keep Schultz, I prefer that as well. I don't think Demers is as good of a skater but he is a better option than some others I have seen suggested. |

Neutral to higher. Anderson isn't as proven s commodity, never been a true 1 but a 1b. Also no one knew if Toronto would add a goalie this year. But everyone knew Anaheim would be selling. So you removed one goalie from the mkt whose the closest competition. |

I guess it comes down MAF or Reimer for Calgary. For Calgary its a no brainer for me. Reimer will be cheap but he will be just more of the same of what they have been getting. MAF will cost some assets and $$ but he has been an above average G who brings SC experience as well as being great for the locker room. Calgary has to decide what they want to be. I don't think they are as much in the drivers seat as some of their fans think they are on this one. |

Andersen is younger than Flower and obviously Toronto thought he'd be about the same cap hit. I'd say because of that he was worth more than Fleury on the market, so I'd say Andersen is the upper bound of any Fleury deal. I think Andersen getting plucked by Toronto helps our cause though. Flower wasn't a fit in Toronto due to age so I don't think there was ever a deal to be had there. If Capgary had gotten Andersen it would have been bad news bears for us |

Obviously this was the Leafs thinking, but I really disagree. At least you know Fleury can be the man, you know what you are getting with him and that is +60 quality starts during the regular season. Andersen has never even been the man on his own team, so to give him that contract and trade away quality assets seems like a big risk. They shouldnt have gambled on goalie and it could end up hurting them.
I honestly think Andersen is going to be a bust. He is going from playing in front of a very strong defence and sharing the load to a team with terrible defence where he is expected to be the #1 guy. I really liked what Toronto was doing but they may have hurt themselves with this one. |

I'm leaning this way too. Five years is a big gamble. Especially if they continue to suck. It'll beat him down.

With Matthews coming in and possibly Stamkos (still says he goes to Det) all they really need to do is fix their D and they won't be bad |

Let's assume that Marner and Nylander are full time NHLers next year and Matthews is a stud out the gate. Do you really think Toronto will be ready to seriously contend already? That core needs time to grow together and the team is still a couple of other pieces away (I don't think Gardiner or Rielly can be true 1Ds). By the time Toronto is ready Fleury's contract will be on the verge of expiring if not expired and he'll be in the twighlight of his career. Just not a fit. If I were Toronto I would have rather gambled on Andersen too or resigned Reimer as a stop gap that doesn't completely suck while they look for their guy. |

He definitely is, but I can see a team giving him the same amount or possibly more, which would be way too much for JR to give him. |

Anderson was an average goalie on a great hockey team. He is going to get peppered in TO and the media will be all over it and him by Christmas.
Look how many goalies this has happened to the past 10 or so years. |

I throw one of our 2nds for Shinkaruk. Kid would be an absolute perfect fit into the Pens system, and would play right away. |

Its a bit of a different story under the new regime. Lou and Babcock do an incredible job of taking the brunt of any criticism. More importantly, the media and most of Toronto have had their expectations checked by the new regime and are happy, despite finishing 30th, with the direction of the team. There's an element of respect and trust with the new guys that I've never seen from the fans and media, and its neutralizing the negativity. With Babs, Lou, and Shanny at the helm this is a safer place to develop than ever before. |

They essentially got Andersen and kapanen for kessel, so it's not that bad for TO. If the leafs play their cards right, they draft Matthews, pick up a couple decent free agents, trade bozak for extra help on D and then they have a pretty ok team. Plus, if their young kids continue to develop, they will have a solid team in front of Andersen. I think he'll do fine there, but I don't think he'll lead the league in anything or be up for a vezina any time soon, if ever |

Just watched every goal the Pens scored in the playoffs linked to Lange's commentary. There were some beauties. Also, we scored on King Henry.... ALOT! |
