Was reading the Leafs thread and they were talking about how they likely had the Andersen stuff worked out but waited to announce the trade and signing until after the NBA Finals were done. Sounds pretty logical, but also makes me wonder if the Vesey trade might have been started the same way.

Same agent, playing with eichel etc.. if you come out and change your tune right away it looks bad vs. saying we had every intention of hitting FA but we changed our minds. I don't believe they would have made this deal if they didnt think they had a legit shot.

The Sabres JUST acquired his rights.

When it's a first round pick and a second next year for a player who has been in the league already I say sure.

For a college kid...IDK and it would have come out earlier today IMO

Yeah, the "definitive" sounding comment rather than a sunshine press sort of quote along the lines of "We're glad to hear of the trade and we look forward to our contact with Buffalo in the coming days to see what might get worked out" is a bit scary.

I don't, that's why I said I wonder if the Vesey trade has actually been done for a few days but was held back.

I just think there was some sort of NHL-wide request to hold off on announcements, seems a little too coincidental that Vesey then Andersen then Yandle all fire off shortly after each other this evening.

It's not the same. Savard and Pronger were both on front loaded contracts. A team trying to reach the floor could acquire them, have a huge hit, and not have to pay that much money. Moulson is owed a lot of real money on his contract.

The agent speak is cold water, but, hoping it's just protecting themselves. Think of it this way, if vesey turns down BUF wouldn't the summer hockey league locker room be a little weird?

They want to dump Lupul, that's another 5.25, and I can't believe they have Laich at 4.5 as well
