I think he meant #2 defenseman. The point is Gardiner and Reilly are still as good as or better than anyone not named Ristolainen on Buffalo's defense corps. Hopefully McCabe surpasses them, but he hasn't yet.
- buffalofan19

Reilly and Risto aren't exactly worlds apart either.

Risto was hemmed in his zone a ton this year.

I'd obviously take Risto over Reilly, but it's not exactly like either is Drew Doughty

JVR = or is better than Kane.

They don't have an O'Reilly, but Kadri is pretty good. They have better prospects than we do. An extra 1st this year.

Gardiner and Reilly is better or equal to any 2 D we can ice.

I also don't know where 7 mil in cap space comes from

- sbroads24

They have 10 mill in cap space. So they don't have a lot. We have more than double what they have

Kadri couldn't carry O'Riley's gym bag... (I believe I've heard that before about another player...)

Gardiner and Reilly are like 2A and 2B not 1 like Risto.

They have better prospects we have better players like Reinhart. They also have no goaltending

Would anyone give up the 8th pick + for the 3rd pick and Hartnell?

Sabres are on MSG for another 10 years, but they get more say in their content. Perhaps down the line they can come up with a better name than "MSG WNY" but if they put the right money and people into it, it could work. Hopefully, they invest more in TV presentation, which has looked like something produced from a 2005 Dell Laptop in somebody's basement since they started on the network.

Over the past 2 seasons

Morgan Reilly - 65 points
Ristolainen - 61 points

Both stuck on poor teams.

And is our goaltending really determined for the future yet?

I would think that Lehner and Ullmark give us better options tho..

Risto was technically in his first full year last year also he played three less games due to injury. I don't want to hear about Reilly being better then Risto give me a break.

And no our goaltending isn't a lock but it's a (frank) ton better then the utter crap Toronto has

I hope so.

I'm not saying I'd change positions with the Leafs, because I wouldn't. But both franchises have incredibly bright futures with star #1 centers

3 years at a $4.75 cap hit...

Hmmmmm

I would if we could move Moulson or Ennis

Is this really being discussed?

Apparently if you are a Buffalo fan you are not allowed to think the Leafs may be in really good shape moving forward.

Buffalo has 10 million or so coming off the books next year plus the additional space they have right now which is double so even if Toronto has all this cap room freeing up it wont be close to Buffalo's. Yet again, advantage us.

Well they want to move up and the Oilers want a lot to do it, take Hartnell and maybe it works. Moving up to 3 or 4 is but not so much the players yet.

None of those players on your arguably list are better than Hall. And I would only say OV and Benn are better than him. I would take Hall over OV due to age and contract though.

Kane and JVR are washes

Eichel and Reinhart are NHL established 20 goal scorers.

Risto is better than Rielly and Gardiner.

Gionta and Lupul have been a wash lately.

Ullmark and Peterson are better than any goalie prospects they have.

Our depht of Bailey, Baptiste, Fasching, Hurley, Olofosson, karabacek, and Possler is better than what they have after Marner, Nylander, and Kapenen.

They don't have an ROR unless they get Stamkos.

IF we get Vesey and someone like Puljujarvi or Tkachuk by trading up like it sounds like we are trying to.. that would be HUGE in equaling out Matthews.

Both teams are good.

We are coming out of the bottom. They are still in the tank for another year or two I bet.

A. That's not true
B. We have no prospect that could carry Mitch Marner or Kasperi Kapanen's jock
C. They have enough assets to make a deal for an O'Reilly caliber player.

Might be able to deal with the Jackets more then the Oilers just for the simple fact as to the players the Oilers would move, they want a lot to move the pick.
