@Losman
Vesey wants to hit unrestricted free agency. It's far from a done deal he signs in Buffalo.
The only reason for Vesey to hit free agency now is to pick the team he wants to play for as he will get the top ELC from whoever he signs with so it's not about money. I think he will be guaranteed to play with Eichel and Reinhart. I'm sure Murray has been assured he will come here to trade a 3rd for him

If he was assured he would sign with Buffalo, why trade a 3rd for his negotiating rights? Why not just wait and sign the guy you're sure you're going to sign for free?

Technically you are right but since Murray traded for his rights and Nashville got compensated why would they complain since they were on the hook to get nothing.

Old saying the early bird catches the worm so why wait
I could be wrong and I know we had 4 3rds but that's a high choice to chance plus you have 2 months to talk instead of a minute. Maybe I'm playing devils advocate here but Vesey is friends with Eichel and they have the same agent plus they are playing together in a summer league so maybe he wants to play with Eichel in the NHL so Eichel passes the word to Murray. This also allows Murray to get his line-up set sooner and he can plan accordingly to his next moves and know he has the winger he wants for the Eichel line. |

Seems Veyseys agent says nothing has changed and he still expects him to be a UFA on Aug 15th. |

Garth, Buffalo didn't reel in Vesey, they reeled in NAS to trade his rights. Vesey is still going to free agency.

Tim Murray made a good move, giving up a 3rd for Vesey to Nashville assures that Nashville breaks even on Vesey and it gives Murray 2 months to reel him in.
To say that the agent posted that nothing has changed as far as free agency goes, well you can take that with a grain of salt , because if Vesey wants to play with Eichel in Buffalo his agent will do what he needs too to get it done, the agent works for the player not the other way around.
This could change the way Murray attacks the draft and free agency, it should be very interesting.
Oh, by the way Toronto......suck it |

I may be wrong, but I think the team that owns a college player's rights can offer an additional year or something like that compared to what other teams could offer under the CBA. I think I remember this being a point of contention when he told the Preds that he was going to elect to become an UFA. There was talk about whether he was leaving money on the table vs the chance to reach free agency sooner in his career (or something along those lines anyways). |

Nice Filipowski is the little engine that could.....but gets no respect yet and looks about 16 years old. There is no way the agent can address anything other than what he said, it's already a joke Eichel wooed him, since Eichel CANNOT extend a contract nor is apart of the Sabres Managment staff, he can can woo him all he wants. Is this a loophole because the entry level contract $ is the same with any team, yes, all they need is a signature from Vesey....finally, if all of a sudden Vesey signs BEFORE Aug 15th after playing hardball, it clearly looks like tampering.
No, August 15th there (hopefully) have a presser at FNC.....but this reeks of Eric Lindors parents....why would the kid not want to play in Nashville? Night life, they got to 2nd round again, just got Ryan Johansen, the Real Deal James Neal....something's fishy with this kid. |

He could play in more then 10 games last year there by burning off the first year of his ELC cant play any more this year now. |

He can only sign his entry level deal ... If he hits free agency, it's because he did not want to sign with the Sabres .... :groinkick: - lester29
Doesn't he get to forego the ELC if he hits UFA? If we sign him between now and August, it has to be the ELC, since it's still within the draft class timeframe. But I thought if you wait it out, you get to sign for whatever you can get. I certainly could be wrong on that, but that's the impression I was under.
If that is how it is, then it just means that we get two months to negotiate a $x million contract before anybody else does, and then sign him in August.
Anyway, regardless of if he's doomed to an ELC either way, it was only a 3rd rounder in a draft we have 4 of them. Even if he goes somewhere else, it's hardly the end of the world. |

Nope.
Players younger than 25 years of age as of September 15 during the year of their first NHL contract must sign an entry-level contract which have set limitations - all entry-level contracts are two-way contracts and the maximum allowable salary for players drafted until 2022 is $925,000.
The length of the entry-level contract is also dependent on the player’s age:
18-21 years of age: 3 years
22-23 years of age: 2 years
24 years of age: 1 year |

What does that mean?
Maybe he doesn't want to play in a Southern city.
Don't forget, he also played for the last 2 years with Buffalo native and Sabre prospect Sean Malone, so maybe it wasn't just Eichel buzzing in his ear about how good of a place Buffalo really is.
Former players come back to live here after their careers are over, Hell, some players who never even played here, live here. So there must be something. |

I think where the max ELC's differ is in the bonus' paid...not totally sure but I think I had read that if Eichel reached all his bonus' his contract would pay near 3 mil

Lol Garth is funny.
1. Vesey is already looking for an apartment in Toronto
2. His agent just admitted that nothing has changed with this deal and he will still be a free agent on August 15th. No, this isn't just his agent talking to raise the signing bonus, since he is signing an ELC.
3. Vesey is ducking Buffalo's phone calls. They still have not been able to contact him.

All elc bonuses are the same too. A max elc is a max elc. Unless you're suggesting that he won't get a max elc from every team?
Entry-level contracts can still include signing and performance bonuses. Signing bonuses may not exceed 10 percent of the contract’s total compensation, and is paid to players annually. Performance bonuses for entry-level contracts, that are paid by the team and count against the salary cap cannot exceed a maximum of $2,850,000. Performance Bonuses are broken into 2 categories: Schedule A and Schedule B. Schedule A Bonuses may not exceed $212,500 per individual bonus, and $850,000 in total. There are two types of Schedule B Bonuses. League-wide award/trophy bonuses that are paid by the league and are not captured within the actual entry-level contract signed by the player, and player & club agreed upon bonuses, of which the maximum is $2million per season.

For once he is right. Vesey will be a Buffalo Sabre. Anything to the contrary is legal/agent speak. GmTM doesn't trade 3rd round picks to chase ghosts.

Yeah... uh... they didn't trade for him they traded for his rights which is owned by NAS not Vesey. Don't get me wrong, he can sign with them or wait until August 15th to sign with someone else. |
