I'm legit confused. There might be some whacky rules since it's NCAA and he's been what four years since being drafted? In most cases if you trade for the player before July first, you have exclusive negotiating rights. I assumed Nashville could sign him before August and now Buffalo can. Is this wrong?

U are right...But this is Garths world so.......

Think about this:

Why would he waive his chance at free agency to sign with Buffalo? Lots of players have lots of buddies scattered across the NHL, I doubt he'll forsake his moment just to play with Eichel.

- Jeropotato

I think you're missing my point...we don't know the reasons why or why not he'd accept Buffalo as his new team. I was only giving a few examples of why he may choose here. And I know that about players having plenty of buddies around the NHL, but not everyone has a buddy the caliber of Eichel. Not saying that's the only reason he play here, but I'm sure that it helps. The tweet they sent out didn't really give a definitive answer so I'm going to go with the flow and wait, because that's all we can do. We're never going to know his thought process, or if he is looking for an apt in Toronto (lol) so why bicker about it behind our keyboards?

I don't care either way, just laughing at how Garf has him penciled in on Eichels line already.

Easy on the ice tea Garth. They just traded for his rights so they can talk to him at their leisure ...that is if he would return their phone calls. At this point he is going to test the market so not sure why Buffalo would blow the pick if Eichel is such a salesman. My guess is they just wasted a second round pick either way.
- habmanj

It was a 3RD Round pick, Everybody talks like he is trying to break the bank testing free agency, He will get the max contract no matter who he signs with. Tim Murray can talk to him and his agent up to and through August 15th. It certainly gives the Sabres a head start in trying to convince him that Buffalo is the place he wants to be.
As far as firing Murray if he decides to go somewhere else, I'm sure Mr. Pegula approved the trade knowing the risk involved. We have 4 3rd round picks and I agree that it is well worth the risk to get a player of Vesey's skill set. I am also pretty damn sure he will take their phone calls.

To all the arrogant Leafs and Sabres fans...there is word play in that tweet about Vesey. It say's "at this time" which could mean absolutely anything. After touring the Sabres facilities he could end up deciding to sign, or maybe Eichel talks him into signing with the team, who knows. He also could decide to to become a UFA.

Who the *bleep* knows.

Quit acting like children

On your point #3.... Ducking what phone calls?? That would be tampering, Buffalo or any other team other than Nashville could not contact him anyway.
- YYZ

Yes but they are able to talk with him once his right have been acquired, obviously. And Vesey is rejecting all of Buffalo's calls.

I guess GMTM can recover from his mistake by signing McGinn. Which is possible.

Then we won't have really traded anything for Vesey, since we got the player back that we dealt for the pick.

My money is still on Boston.

Grew up there.

Went to Harvard.

Seems like a natural fit.

Somebody knows something. Otherwise it would have been a fifth rounder shot in the dark. He is going to sign with us
- Mangler

Probably.Hes a better fit with the Sabres and Eichel anyway.Good luck

Buffalo 2%

...watch Vesey sucks ass though. He seems a little spoiled. There is absolutely no way Lou will guarantee hm a spot in the Leafs lineup cause of all the rookies, meanwhile the Bruins probably will.

They gave up a 3rd #76 from Minnesota so I would think Murray is pretty much assured he will be signing here or he will look pretty foolish.
- Leninthebuff

Its a 3rd round pick, its not like its that big of a deal, you will probably never here of 90% of the 3rd round picks this year other than when they are drafted.

How about, "we're happy the Sabres showed such belief in the player and we will carefully evaluate the opportunity."

That wasn't so hard.

- SameOld

Come on, an agent is never saying that. He may or may not sign in Buffalo but an agent never loses leverage in the press on purpose.

I get that he's going to be a free agent, but I'm a little unsure why some people are falling over themselves for this kid.

3rd round pick. Played in one of the softest leagues in the world.

I'll believe the greatness when I see it.
