More likely Eichel said "Jim, don't sign here cause of me. As soon as I am a UFA, I am outta here". |

I think Vesey knows exactly where he is going, that's why he wouldn't sign with Nashville. He could land in Buffalo, lots of reasons to go there. However it just seems odd that he would turn down a great organization, same money, top 6 minutes and playing in the playoffs so he could be wooed by another team? Vesey is going where he wants to play, I'm not sure how someone is going to convince him to play anywhere else. So why burn the pick? |

...watch Vesey sucks ass though. He seems a little spoiled. There is absolutely no way Lou will guarantee hm a spot in the Leafs lineup cause of all the rookies, meanwhile the Bruins probably will. - domi_legend

nice to see garf and his minions already have vesey penciled into the top 6.
Agent: "Jimmy's intent at this time has not changed and he is prepared to become a free agent on August 15"
He has nothing to gain by holding out, just gets the opportunity to pick his team.
Buffalo just wasted a 3rd. Vesey signs in Boston or Toronto |

this literally makes too much sense. the guy knows where he wants to play, and its either his hometown team or the organization that his brother plays for and dad works for.
this kid is not gonna feel guilty buffalo burned a 3rd, and I doubt his "best bud" LOL EIchel is gonna be able to convince him. he is gonna do what he feels right for himself and his family and if that place was buffalo, he would have signed right away |

I think a lot has to do with the draft and free agency first. Why sign right away? Suppose the Sabres draft/sign a LW or two. That makes it a tough scenario. Regardless of where he goes, anyone in this situation would at least wait as long as the can to see the next couple weeks pan out. At least that's my opinion

Seems like a natural fit. - Atomic Wedgie
I would think Toronto over Boston, as he has said he will take rosters, coaching style, city etc. into making his choice..Boston has the hometown factor but right now they are a mess and getting old. Toronto and Buffalo are young and upcoming teams, both have good young prospects...both will have star centers. We all can speculate all we want but none of us know the true details. Lets say Vesey and Eichel hang out other then just on the ice during their summer league play and are close friends...this is where I think Buffalo has the edge. Yeah, his dad is working for Toronto but he isn't there with him for 82 games sure easier playing with your best bud which I think makes the transition to the pro game easier and more fun. |

Tim Murray made a good move, giving up a 3rd for Vesey to Nashville assures that Nashville breaks even on Vesey and it gives Murray 2 months to reel him in.
To say that the agent posted that nothing has changed as far as free agency goes, well you can take that with a grain of salt , because if Vesey wants to play with Eichel in Buffalo his agent will do what he needs too to get it done, the agent works for the player not the other way around.
This could change the way Murray attacks the draft and free agency, it should be very interesting.
Oh, by the way Toronto......suck it - macman9

I get that he's going to be a free agent, but I'm a little unsure why some people are falling over themselves for this kid.
3rd round pick. Played in one of the softest leagues in the world.
I'll believe the greatness when I see it. - Atomic Wedgie
This seems to have been the sentiment on the Leafs board for a while now. I am not sure how Buffalo fans have concluded this is such a triumph for them.

Gotta love Toronto bloggers and their belief that every possible free agent wants to sign there and play there for the rest of their lives.
Anyway,
1. Vesey can only get the max $975,000 rookie contract.
2. He can max out at close to $2.4 million in performance bonuses (just reported by Paul Hamilton)
3. If he choses to play with someone he knows (Eichel), then so be it. Its up to him.
4. A 3rd round pick is not a large price to pay for exclusive negotiating rights.
5. If discussions do not go the Sabres way, then GMTM can trade those rights again before August 15th to Toronto or Boston, or whoever wants to be next at bat to talk to Vesey.
6. Also reported by Paul Hamilton, GMTM hasn't tried to call Vesey's agent yet, as he will be in town this week. This is not a shocking thing. I am sure they will be having some meeting(s) this weekend. There are two full months to talk, and I am sure it will happen sooner than later.
Here's to hoping that GMTM can get this done. I would like to see the line of Eichel, Reinhart, and Vesey and what they can do. Oh, and then the other possible top six line would be O'Reilly, Kane and Ennis (or if luck happens, Stamkos, Okposo, Backes, or other free agent).

How do we know that they're best buds? Is the only thing to go off of the summer league thing? I want some pictures of them taking shots and blowing lines together or I don't buy it. |

nashville made out here. Got a pick for nothing. good move for buffalo as well as they had numerous picks and you take a shot. clearly they weren't sold on wanting to wait until he becomes a free agent so they want to talk to him asap.
Not sure why anyone will guarantee him a spot in their top 6. What has he done
to earn that? My prediction is whoever he signs with he ends up in the
AHL by mid November.
Garth you have been telling everyone since April GMTM has had his eyes on him. Well isn't it safe to say that every other GM also had their eyes on him as well? Not like GMTM is outsmarting anyone here. |
