If the Sabres can't get Vesey to sign this will look real bad. First of all you make a gamble of a move (it's only a 3rd so no big deal) but if you can't get him locked up and he goes to Toronto or Boston it's negative press. Small market team couldn't lock up so and so.

Second, Murray at the press conference just put a lot of pressure on his 19 year old face of the franchise in Eichel to convince his buddy to sign here. If he doesn't succeed it will make Eichel look bad, real bad.

So it makes me believe that Murray knows damn well that Vesey will be a Sabre at the start of the 2016-2017 season. He wouldn't risk his franchise players reputation if he didn't know they could get Vesey signed.

I don't think it looks that bad, if bad at all. You take a shot. If the kid wants to be a free agent he'll be a free agent and there's no amount of convincing that can change that. Not like we can throw the world at him, it's basically "Here's the max money, and here's our roster."

Idk if it's sarcasm over the internet so it's lost but, seriously, I do think it's an okay trade still. If he dies game 1 again next year then it's not. He plays like he did after the injury and it was definitely worth it.
