on-ice...shoulda qualified that statement - Michael Pachla
I get what you're saying, because I've been saying that since the season started and Stamkos's demands came out. I've said dozens of times I just don't like the idea of anyone in the league making more than the two of those guys are right now. They walk the walk and have the hardware to back it up.
I also don't think that Stamkos is a difference maker when it matters most, but I guess it could be a lack of exposure to all of his games as well. I just know that when the game is on the line, Quenneville rolls Toews and Kane out on the ice one of them almost always works their magic. I just don't feel like Stamkos does that anywhere near on the same level as they do.
Is he a good player? Absolutely. I just don't think he's better than them or should be making more than they do.
I like Stamkos as much as the next guy. I just can't see his salary/ role fitting in to our team as it is built right now. Are you going to slide him over to wing (his natural position being center)? If he stays at center, is Eichel/O'Rielly a 3rd line center? Would you slide O'Rielly over to wing, even though he's' a great center?
I just don't see the fit. - bobmack13
When Bylsma was coach in Pittsburgh he had Malkin, Crosby, and Staal: all of whom were centers. He found was to play all 3 of them around 20 minutes of ice per game (Malkin and Crosby over 20, Staal under by 30 seconds). This means that Jordan Staal was not *just* the third line center, as a third line center would probably get around 15 minutes per game. This means that Bylsma found ways to play all 3 of them(and they were obviously successful). We've seen how Bylsma changes up the lines constantly this past season and I'm sure having Eichel, ROR, Stammer, would not be a problem. Having too much talent is never an issue.

My unpopular guess is we won't be going after Stamkos. we have plenty of centers. is this a ploy by gmtm to drive the price up?? - turbo044
When a player of Stamkos's magnitude is this close to hitting UFA, if your GM isn't at least kicking the tires in some way (especially one who's team has been a bottom feeder for awhile) then he's not doing his job and should be fired.

He shouldn't but that's the price of doing business in Free Agency
