Watching the presser...

Murry's reaction talking about O'Reilly is that he envisions him moving to wing...hesitated before he said we traded for a "top line center"....only said "top line, skilled, leadership kind of guy"

I mean this might be reading into it a bit but i'm bored

Only concern is he had 3 sh!t seasons prior to the contract year.

Really like the player but no more than a 3 year deal.

As I've previously stated only Stamkos and Yandle are worth more than 3 years.

- dadeadhead

I get that

I see it as he had 2 down years but 6 out of 8 years with between 22-36 goal years as well.

I'd take him over Ladd, boedkker, Okposo, Etc.

I think I'd want Hoffman the most an an RFA and more than Eriksson but unsure how realistic it is

What are the chances a video of Puljujarvi free-basing crack comes out 10 minutes before the draft starts so he drops to 8?

I'd rather pay Stamkos 12 million than Ladd/Okposo 6 million. But we don't even know how much Stamkos is going to sign for yet. He could end up 10.5, could end up 11.
- chilliard77

I heard 10-11 but today I heard it might go as high as 12, either way you go after him.

Really who ? Ladd, Okposo, who is going to trade us one. Ladd stinks as does Okposo and aren't worth 6 a year.
- SABRES 89

I'd love the idea of trading for Stone, or Hoffman, obviously not a UFA. Murray is definitely capable of pulling off a trade.
I'm not a fan of the money, the term, and the fact that Stamkos has played 1 full season in his last 4. There has to be a better option than making him the highest paid player in the NHL, he may be in the top 10.
I'm taking notes of all of you Stamkos fanboys, so if we do sign him, and he breaks down 2-3 years into a 7-8 year contract, I can call out everyone who wants Murray's head because he signed him for so long.
Murray is building this team properly. Adding Stamkos throws everyone out of their natural positions. I just don't like the idea, I've tried, I just can't get there.

He actually said a top 6 skilled leadership guy in Ryan. I was surprised by that.

He's played 2 full seasons as one was the strike year of 48 games and played 77 of 82 last year.

He's only had one injury plagued season and that was a freak broken leg.

Yes Bobrozsky or whatever.

Move up and take him back.

- JVince11

That would be a backwards move by Columbus. Last year wasn't kind to Bobrovsky with the injuries, and unless they don't think he can come back from the groin that kept him out most of the year then, hey, go for it. Unless they back out again down to maybe 9 or 10 so they can get a center. Brown seems like he's a Torts guy.

As Sabres fans, we are in really strange times right now. In the not so distant past we were wondering if the team was going to make a move at all during the draft/free agency. Now Mr. Pegula has spoiled us, and the possibilities are limitless(excluding the salary cap, of course).
That being said, I think that we need to be smart going forward, and not grab the shiniest toy just because we can. Some say we need a "Superstar", I say they are on their way in the form of Eichel, Samson, Risto, O'Reilly. A few pieces(not in the vein of 12 mil a season), and we are going to be a very dangerous team for a long time. Just a little patience, and we are in for one hell of a ride.

Post more.

Next year's UFA pool is so deep too. Not all will be UFA but some will fire sure.

No offense but you can't come close to comparing O'Reilly and Reinhart to Stankos. That's just lunacy. I know you didn't say they were better, but at Reinhart's age Stamkos was a 50 goal scorer. O'Reilly has never had as good of a year as Stamkos's "Down year" this year.

We will be lucky if Eichel ends up better than him. I don't think people realize how great Stamkos is

My guess is ROR would go to the wing. Murray said, "If the best centerman in the world asks if he can play here or if the best defenseman in the world asks if he can play here, I can't say 'oh no, we have this,' yes come and play, somebody else will have to pay the price."
- Pierceme69

Except Stamkos isn't the best centerman in the league. I'd take Kopitar, Seguin, Pavelski, Getzlaf and Crosby over him. And Scheifele, Johansen, McDavid and Monahan coming up too. Not saying I'd take the last 4 over him today aside from McDavid, but in 2-3 years probably, yeah.

Oh you don't have to worry about that. I enjoy your posts because I know that you aren't talking out of your a$$. However there are many that love to pound him for no good reason. We are going to win trades, we are going to lose trades, but Murray has a solid vision of what he wants, and he is not afraid to fail. I just think that we are starstruck by Stamkos, and maxing out on him just because we can isn't the right way to move forward.

The point was basically if you can get a center that would be the best center on your team, you don't rule it out just because you're deep at center.
