That's not a guarantee. But I get what you're saying and pretty much said the same thing in my previous post. The chance of getting to the SCF and winning it exponentially increases with a guy like that on your roster.
- HonkFortheGoose

Agreed but have to add that he was a ghost for TB in the playoffs when they went to the finals and he didn't play in the playoffs this year and they were in the conference finals.

I'm not disagreeing that paying Stamkos 12 million could be a huge hurdle later on. My issue with your original post was that you think he's going to basically fall off a cliff skill wise at the age of 28.
- HonkFortheGoose

I'm not saying that he's going to fall off a cliff, but it 's possible( anythings possible). I also really like Stamkos, but I don't really like making him the highest paid player in the NHL (realistically he's in the top 10), when he doesn't fit the team very well, other than scoring a lot of goals, if that makes sense.

Ok, lets play the "we signed Stamkos to this gross contract" game. How many guys are you shifting out of their natural positions in order to "fit" Stamkos? How happy are they really going to be? When Eichel comes up for contract, how much does he get since he has more or less been promised the team, and Stamkos is getting 12 mill.
The way the team is built now, Stamkos just doesn't fit. We don't need another Center, and we don't need another Right Winger. We need a Left Winger (Vesey), and a scoring LHD. Adding a right handed Center that puts us in Cap hell isn't very smart.

Not that he doesn't deserve criticism if he played poorly, but this happens to star players every year. Teams do a great job of shutting down star players. That's why rolling out 3 lines of guys that can score would be amazing

Pay Stamkos...win cups.

I'll keep posting this until people on this board stop taking crazy pills

A 21 year old Wayne (frank)ing Gretzky could come on the market and some of the low-speeds on here would female dog about having to pay him too much.

You said you would take Kane and Toews over Stamkos:

This year Kane & Toews combined for 1 goal in the playoffs.

The more goals you score, the better chance your team has of winning. Unless the rules of the game changed and I'm unaware.

We finished in 25th for goals for per game. That's awful. We were middle of the pack in terms of goals against per game with Chad Johnson as our goaltender for most of the year.

That tells me that we need to up the amount of goals we score big time. Stamkos fits that bill and then some, IMO.

Neither has Ovechkin, yet you would take him.

Would you take
Thornton
Marleau
Parise
Iginla

Etc on this team?

Ok, we sign him, and put guys out of position, he still doesn't make us a cup contender. We need a LHD that moves the puck, and a couple more pieces. Do we have any room to make that happen??? That D man is going to cost 6-7 ish, on top of other pieces, on top of signing Risto, ect.

Stamkos instantly adds another 30-40 goals to this team if he were to sign here. How many one goal games did we lose last year?

Thus why Chicago got bounced early on. St. Louis did a good job of shutting them down. Though in all fairness to them, they did combine for 13 points in that series. Just because they only had 1 goal doesn't mean they didn't contribute on the scoresheet at all.

IDK...

Playoff stats for the other stars of the league.

Patty Kane is a .98
Toews is close as welll at .87.
Crosby is a 1.1 PPG.
Malkin is a 1.05 PPG
Ovechkin is a .98
Benn is a 1.05
Kopitar is a .85
Tarasenko is a .73

Stamkos is a .71 in the playoffs.

Don't get me wrong.. I want Stamkos but there are things about him being his CONS that make me hesitate. I'll do a backflip down the downtown area if signed.

We shouldn't ever sign anyone then. Because one person does not make a cup contender.

but someone of his caliber sure does help.

We're getting there, Vesey should be the big push. He makes perfect sense, fits the team like a glove, and gives us room to make more moves. The suffering is over, now is the time to make moves that make sense, not make moves just to make moves.

Sure. They did have a bad series... but both are career PPG players basically. Both better than Stamkos's playoff numbers.

I think the pros heavily out weight the cons with him. That being said, who knows really. IMO this team has a 3-4 year window where they can do some serious damage and not be forced to rid themselves because of the cap. That's with Stamkos.

Dreger and the Harvard Center who played with Vesey were just on wgr. I didn't get a chance to hear what they said, but would be interesting

IMO Stamkos does make us a cup contender.

Eichel will be a 70-80 point player. Add Stamkos and that's two of them.

Add Vesey and we have a deep, deep top 6.

He's 26. Not 30. Elite goal scorers do not fall off a cliff until about 35 years old.
