Here's an idea. Sign Stamkos to 12M a year/ 7 years. don't protect him from expansion (Not the next one, the one after that) I'm of course assuming that there will be a second expansion in 7 years.
If not, you still have one of the best goal scorers in the league til he'd be 33. Not exactly over the hill. - SDSabre
Sounds good, but I'd bet money he gets a no movement clause |

Not Free Agency, I think that free agency is the devil. Trades!!!! Contrary to what some may think, the O'Reilly trade was great, and just what we needed. The Jets trade was exactly what we needed at the time. Murray is more than capable of addressing needs outside of free agency. - bobmack13
Yes ROR was great for what he brings to the table but he is not a goal scorer.
This team was 5th LAST in the league in scoring, but no we don't want to add the 2nd best goal scorer of the last 6 or so years because you know you have to pay him a lot... |

He's not exactly what we need, that's the problem. If guys need to be displaced in order to make him fit, and we aren't able to make other necessary moves because of no Cap room then...... - bobmack13
You look at the number $12 million like it's a static thing, but all these numbers are dynamic. When Toews and Kane got their $10.5 million deals, they were about 15% of the cap for each. The cap only went up about $1.7 million for next season and their percentage is already down about .5%. $12 million is a lot of coin, but it hurts less and less over time. Other contracts can be moved out to clear space both now and in the future. a 7 year deal only takes Stamkos to his age 33-34 season. It's not like he is 32 already. |

Let's see in the next day if Murray will be able to swing a deal with the Jackets for the 3rd pick. - SABRES 89
Anything you hear? Cause Murray specifically mentioned the cost of the 3rd pick, and it's outrageous. |

Exactly Crosby 's cap hit is $8.7 million. He is worth a lot more but as the cap rises the high end players get high end money. |

It's weird how much I hated Darcy, and now I'm thinking dollars, and term, lol. Again, I think Stamkos is great, but just not great for us. - bobmack13
Then we have a massive problem with our team then. |

Maybe. Could be a NTC, which could leave him exposed. One would think that Stamkos isn't worried about being buried in the minors, so he's thinking more about a NTC instead of a NMC. From what I understand (which isn't a whole lot) a NTC can be picked by an expansion team.
And like I said, even if it doesn't happen, you have one of the best players in the game til he's 33. |

Yes I was told, I'm going to the awards tonight and my uncle just called me to ask if I got the overnight package with my VIP tickets, I asked about Stamkos and he said " Absolutely the are going for him " he said Vesey " there confident but also cautious at the same time".
He said Murray will move up but only for the right deal, don't think he's interested in taking back a bad contract at this time. - SABRES 89
This surprises me, I thought that vesey was a lock and theyre playing it safe. Still locks promising |

he needs to be on the wing or dropped to the second line IMO when we compete
unless they are rolling 3 lines |

Crosby's cap hit is not comparable to any going forward. he was the last before the new CBA Limited contract length.
I would have to guess if Crosby was only limited to 8 years his AAV would be higher. |

He is one of the best FO guys in the entire NHL. That is my only concern about moving him away from the dot. Stamkos is not NEARLY as good on the dot if I remember correct. |

What do you mean by displaced?
You mean move ROR to the wing...which he has played almost his entire career? - Stripes77
I thought that one of our glaring needs was to get a LW for Eichel? Stamkos doesn't address that. We need an offensive D man, Stamkos won't allow us to get that. |

correct thing to say, so there is no tampering
if vesey does not sign by july 10tyh, then the flags should go up and consider moving his rights
from july 4th to 10th, murray should be showing him the town with jack and doing whatever it takes to get him to ink the deal |

Fine Kopitar got $10 million but for 8 years so 80 million.
Stamkos can get $80 million but over 7 years...a little less than $11.5 per. |

So you put O'Reilly on the same line as Stamkos. Have ROR take the faceoff and then drop back to the wing. There's plenty of guys that do that. |

OH?
We have roughly 22.5MM in cap space.
Add Stamkos - 11.5ish say give or take.
You still have 11MM to make moves.
Risto sigsn for 5 ish
You still have 6MM to make moves
Move out Ennis if you can you are back up to 10MM.
