I don't get what's going on here it's like people want chicken nuggets instead of lobster
- GERBE!!!75PTS

Yeah but filet mignon is better than Lobster! There's about 10 other meals I would have other than lobster even though they aren't even available here. I would pay 20 dollars for lobster but 22 dollars is outrageous! If we get the lobster we might lose one of the old, crusty, homegrown nuggets!

Some would rather have a 6oz pork chop and a 6oz chicken breast then have a 12oz filet.

Stamkos is good but he aint no Kopitar so really I don't want him. He literally stinks. or figuratively or something.

I think at this point they have to be very careful about how many of the higher end prospects we have that they "give away" as part of trade packages. The cupboards aren't completely bare, but they're not fully stocked either. We have the advantage of having a very young core, but you have to continually have quality guys coming through your system.

Chicago is a perfect example of why and how to do it basically. They've been able to keep their key top guys together despite the very large contracts they have because they've been able to move guys that need larger contracts by having guys in the pipe that are ready to step in and can fill their shoes. And even their system has had some warts.

- HonkFortheGoose

I agree we need to be like Chicago, so my point was, if we want to do another Kane / O'Reilly trade, who prospect wise are we willing to give up? I dont want to give any up, really.

Capfriendly is fun...

Traded Ennis for a '16 4th and a '17 3rd from FLA.
Traded Larsson and Pysyk for Fowler, Cogliano, and a 3rd
Traded Franson and a 3rd for RFA D Oleksiak.
Resigned Legwand for 1.75M
Resigned Foligno at 2.25M even though I really didn't want to.
Signed Eriksson at 5.2M for 4 years.
Created Vesey.
Draft Nylander at 8

Kane - ROR - Reino
Vesey - Eichel - Eriksson
Zemgus - Cogliano - Gionta
Foligno - Legwand - D-Lo
COR

Fowler - Risto
McCabe - Bogo
Gorges - Nelson
Oleksiak

Lehner
Ullmark

(that should russle some jimmies)

- JVince11

I give you an A for effort but the last thing GMTM needs is more draft picks. He said so himself in his presser yesterday.

Those players you moved get packaged with picks for a roster player or two.

I also want a better back-up. I think Oleksiak is a good depth guy though I did like that one.

Florida is 24M in the hole. They would LOVE Ennis's contract and a 20 goal scorer I'd imagine. Picks is about all you can take from there. I know they want to deal Gudbranson or Kulikov but those cap hits are insane for the output they give.

Those draft picks I took in essentially would replenish the ones being used to move up this year man. Nothing big about that.

I agree that Ullmark is not my first choice. I could have looked around more. Maybe CJ will be back.

I have always liked the size and grit of Oleksiak being 6'6 and 245 lbs. He seems to be passed over to Dallas as they are bringing in DMen left and right. I think Oleksiak could be a really good fit for the bottom 6 and be a physical force stay at home guy like Gorges is or was.

If Stamkos wants to come here for 12 are you willing to replace Foligno (2-3M) with Fasching (925,000)? Because that's the difference between 10-12.

- Zschalberg

You're looking at this in a vacuum (one year). I could afford a house that is 100k worth more than my current house. In a few years I am going to have other big bills to pay. I could dump a few things in the short term... that doesn't mean it makes sense for many years to come.

But that's the main key. Chicago hasn't collapsed because even with their big signings they augment them with cheap, young players. Panarin slides next to Kane and goes off. From what it looks like on GeneralFanager 6-8 forwards on that team made less than 3 million with at least 6 making less than 1 (not sure all of them were rostered at the same time). You get your stars and then put young talent next to them for cheap.

Pittsburgh just did the same thing and won the cup. You don't need to have 2 juggernaut lines and then a bottom 6. Spread out your talent with the less talented players. If you have REAL talent (ie. Crosby, Kane, Jack?) and not Sabres talent (Roy, Vanek) they will make players better around them. Then you can take that $925,000 ELC kid and have him play well next to the 12 Million dollar star and produce numbers. But you have to have that star and you have to draft and develop well. This is half of that.

tl;dr: if you think we've drafted well in the last 3 years then now is the time to go FA and go hard

That's why we keep drafting well. This won't be an issue for 2-3 years at the earliest, so you have 2-3 years to restock. During those years I think it'd be foolish to trade too many picks/prospects. Once in a while to go for it all is okay, but I'd be hard pressed to lose a 1st rounder during that time.

I've seen a few comparisons to Vesey and Kreider, almost the same player with vesey having the higher offensive ceiling. I wouldn't mind having both and trading Foligno. That'd be wonderful.

The salary cap isn't in a vacuum either. It was suppose to go down, then remain the same. It ended up going up 3.5 million.

Over the last 7 years, there has been one team with noticeable cap issues, and they won the cup 3 times. Things will work themselves out.

If you only make 75k a year, would you overpay by several thousand for a car just because that is the best one the dealer had?

There are other ways to win championships. In fact, history shows there are better ways.

I heard Sam prefers Samson and goes by Reino on the ice. Rhino is not only an incorrect spelling but also not indicative to his personality or play style.

The public may call him Samson. His teammates may call him Reino and spell it as such.

The Taco has spoken.

Yea I guess what I am saying, I think we might almost be where Chicago is, this saying we sign Stamkos and Vesey, we are already at the dump higher salary 3rd line players and move a prospect up.

So this lineup gets us from 81 pts to 86 pts. People are acting like Vesey is going to produce right away. It will probably take him 3 months to get up to NHL speed. And that blue line will get ripped apart.

And in a few years other bills will fall off and the cap will increase and there will be 500 new things. Yeah, it's a lot of money, but I'd rather be a top heavy team and start losing my 4th line players and replacing them with cheaper players.

I'll work out the math of how things look in 2 years. Then 3 years. Give me a minute
