0 of them played for us.
1 or 2 of them would be available for just cap space
26 of them would require some decent assets going the other way - sbroads24

I takek Nash, Corey Perry or Hoffman for some assets and pocket a ton of extra cap space (potentially tens of millions). - Slump Buster
I think we should go after Nash regardless |

You said 40 goals, now you are changing the Lower limit to better support your argument.
Can you list me of those 28 guys who is available? I count one and that is Louis Eriksson, he misses more games and has more injury concerns than Stamkos.
Stamkos plays defense you, He has + numbers in all of those categories, stop making stuff up - ImThatGuy
No, I was pointing out that for some reason 40 is this magical number and that for a lot less money/risk you could get a very good player without a cartoonish contract. |

Takes 2 to get it done. |

Because unlike the NFL, this is a hard cap. If it wasn't..... pay him 20 million for all I care. |

Sure, of course. But by that logic if we don't get Stammer we are screwed.
Once again, I really hope we get him. This has turned into an arbitration hearing of sorts. I like the player. |

Perry is 31 and is signed until he is 36. Would cost a ton to get in assets. Has an $8.65 million cap hit.
Nash is 32 signed 2 more years but had the worst season of his career and has a $7.8 million cap hit. Could be had for cheap but his production is garbage.
Hoffman is nowhere near the player Stamkos is PERIOD. |

So if Sabres can't/don't sign Vesey by say July 10 and indications are he won't sign here, can we trade the negotiation rights? |

Nash costs you a first round pick plus
Perry cost you 8 plus Reinhart +
Hoffman is not available.
So you saved cap space but made the team weaker, so good job I guess?
12 - 7.2 is 5
12 - 8.7 is 3
So at most you are saving is 5MM and making the team weaker in the process.
PS Last year
Perry - .76PPG
Stamkos - .83PPG
Nash - .6 PPG |

A hard cap that'll increase
A hard cap that they have space to fit him in now and in the future.

Yes. But I don't see why anyone would at that point.
We traded for them now so that we could understand his intentions in signing with us in order to help build the roster. Other teams will have to build their rosters now knowing if they will have him and my guess is they will have to build based upon not having him |

40 is the number you set by saying "Stamkos is only a 40 goal scorer." |

Go listen to the Sean Malone interview on WGR.
Vesey sent him a snap chat when the Sabres traded for his rights.
You don't do that if you're not excited. |

yes but most likely no one will trade for him as if he doesn't sign with us, it's pretty clear he wants to go to UFA |

My guess is Toronto and Buffalo give him the best odds to hit his performance bonuses |
