Hey... don't shoot the messenger... I am quite content with the Flower for ~two 2nds evaluation. Preferably Poirier/Shink and a 2nd. |

Just read this thread....
1. Love Bobby Mack, but he makes a point of not making predicitons, or going out on a limb. Of course the flames have talked to TB about Bishop, if they haven't Tre should be fired; in doing his job he has liked talked to 10 teams about aquiring one of their goalies. However that statement makes no indication of the offer or the ask.
2. Just throwing this out there because people love to hate on Backlund. (But these are mostly the people who value Kane over Teows). I think advanced stats should be taken with a grain of salt, but it is worth mentioning that Backlund is like top 10 centres in league for improving the stats of his wingers. I can't find the source now, but there was an article about it a couple months ago. He also had one of the best posession stats on the team (mind you not hard on that team last year). He is cheap.
3. I would not give up our 6, unless it was a trade down to bring in a goalie, and we still stayed in top 16. Most reports I have read suggest there are some gems still in top 16.
4. Flames are going to have to watch the cap in a couple years here. Flames aren't winning a cup this year. So whatever goalie we get, we need to be able to keep for 2 years down road when our core should be ready for a cup push (in an ideal world). I wonder if that would be the case with Fleury or Bishop?
5. I know we are all sick of the flames taking a flyer on reclamation projects (Hiller, Raymond, etc)..... however if we give up nothing and capture lightning in a bottle with Rimer.... think kiprosoff, Dubnyk, etc. 27-29 y/o cast offs have become stars. I know we tend to poo-poo anything Toronto has touched, but put that aside and the option is viable.
6. w/r/t/ #5 we could likely get Bernier for one of our 2nd's. I honestly haven't seen enough of him to judge if he is actually how much (if at all) he is than Rimer. Curious if a mid 2nd would get this done, and if flames fans would be interested.
7. Man that Anderssen deal was good. a 30th is basically a 2nd. I likely would have given 2 2nd's and a b prospect for anderssen, which should have trumped TO's offer. |

Mid 2nd? T.O. would be lucky if we took him for a Mid 7th! |

Bishop> MAF> Halak> Reimer> Bernier.

Prefer not to take a flyer in net this year, Tre neither if he likes his career. Last year OK, he goes in with questionable mediocre goalie's the wolves will be out.
Are you crazy, Bernier for a 2nd??? Now that they have Andersen locked up, I think a Wideman for Bernier deal looks pretty attractive to them. If we go with a meh scenario in net, lets at least dump Widemans salary. (apologies to all you Wideman lovers)
So what are saying with Backlund? I like to have for the next 2 years but if he can help get us the #3 from Columbus that is fine by me.
Your 4th point makes a little sense for Bishop but not for MAF. He has 3 years left which won't interfere if we are holding the Gilles as our franchise goalie mantra. In fact this would work fine by me.

Sometimes you need to make an executive decision & just not deliver the message. How many times do I have to tell you that.
No, no no & just no. Brodie is off limits. You can deliver that back to the rest drinking with Mr Rutherford. |

Neuvirth is getting 1.65M in Philly and has better #'s the Reimer and is a playoff stud...Philly has 18th pick also but not much else...the Ghost, but pretty sure Philly is holding on to him. |

Damn is Tree doing a good job driving the cost down for Fleury - The-O-G
Or acting super desperate so no team is going to budge off the 6th overall to do the flames any favors. Pony up boys |

There will be a plan D, without giving up the six. Id be ok with Halak for a low cost if the top 2 options are too expensive. The rest are all fairly equal in skills and deficiencies, Varly included.

teams looking for a cap dump of their goalie to you guys...they have to take a contract back, I don't think you can just absorb 6m in a goalie without something coming off the books.
In an ideal situation I would love to see Varly and the 10th for Frolik and the 6th
But you guys will get all pissy about that |
