Seriously, I would pause before trading Hall for Tavares straight up. In the end I'd probably make the trade, but Hall brings so much energy and I believe he STILL has upside. We still haven't really seen him perform on a successful team firing on all cylinders. The rumours flying around are so ridiculous, this deal simply isn't going to happen without JT coming the other way, or a combo of Hamonic, #1picks(which EDM doesn't need), or the other two big Dmen.

Hall with McDavid is simply another level than Hall with JT.

In terms of assets, the Isles can't afford Taylor Hall.

The Yak comment, basically you regurgitating an overplayed and stupid narrative that the Oil need to sell low on Yak for some undefined reason.

If he is only worth a poop return right now then I think the incentive leans to the Oilers keeping him through his cheap RFA years and take the chance that either i) his stock will rise from where it currently stands and he can be dealt or ii) he can be a cheap useful player for the Oil during that time with the ability to move up and down the lineup.

If neither of those things work out then you miss out on what exactly? Because from what I've heard about his current perceived value (e.g., a 2nd) it's really not that tough of a choice/gamble to make.
