Right, Carey Price won the previous year because Montreal is such an excellent defensive team. - winsix
Jesus...I said I liked the trade for the Leafs.
But if you want to nit pick then explain him losing the starting job going into the playoffs? And before you say well he won it back...yeap he did but only because Gibson struggled.
Also Ray Emery, Brian Elliot and Halak all have their name on the trophy in the last 5 years. |

My favourite summer headline from a couple of years ago was "Wendell Clarkson." But, I think this year is the best overall for the blue kool aid. It seems everyone is going all in and more and more people are talking Stanley Cup. Once again we will be hearing Elvis singing to Leaf nation about a Blue Christmas.
- spatso
I think there is a deal in the works with NJ Devils for Blackwood - great goalie prospect. Unfortunate thing is I think Blackwood is Spatso's wife's favorite player. So we may end up seeing Spatso a Leaf Games down the road. |

Thanks for you unbiased opinion. I am not sure but the Jennings trophy went to the goalies who allowed the fewest goals in the league who played a minimum of 25 games, right? Andersen (note the spelling Bimbo, sorry Bingo). Previous two winners were Carey Price, Corey Crawford and Jonathan Quick. Hard evidence does not seem to support your feeble opinion - winsix
Roman Turek, Roman Cechmanek and Robert Esche also have their names on that trophy.
I'm not saying Andersen isn't good. I'm saying he's not elite. |

That's why I think Winnipeg might go for Puljujarvi at 2 (or trade down #3) - they don't want another E Kane situation.
In addition, I still think Puljujarvi will pan out at least as good as Laine. - MaximusAurelius
I hope they do..
it would make a huge example out of him.. But I kinda doubt he wants to play in the peg anyways. |

Your point on Emery is well taken - he started only 21 games - I believe you now have to start 25 to qualify. Halak almost took Price's job one year and was a backup the year he won. Andersen started 43 games in the regular season, Gibson lost the first two in the playoffs and Andersen stood on his head with a .947 save percentage in the final three games, losing the fifth game 2-1. He allowed 4 goals in 3 playoff games. |

I like the acquisition is Andersen. Time will tell how good this trade was, but I was hoping they would target him.
Fingers crossed Stamkos signs. Either way our biggest hole now is a top defender to play with Rielly. Trouba would be ideal but at what cost? If he's even available...
What about Brian Campbell for a couple years? Could he fill that role till we find/develop? |

Trouba is Schenn 2.0
Campbell is old.

Lockout year when Emery won. So he qualified and played 40 percent of the games.
Halak almost took Price's job...when Price was just starting out and really wasn't that great.
Elliot is the perfect example of playing in front of a defensive team.
Anyway...like I said. I liked the trade. Didn't mind the extension (going rate). Just don't put him as a superstar. Now if you plays well in front of a Leaf team that will likely struggle this year then I may change my mind. |

Lou’s job isn’t identifying talent as far as I see it.
I suspect Hunter/Dubas/& co identified Andersen as the target and named the price (trade price and salary).
Lou is the dealmaker. He goes out and gets the trade and sign done.

And Matthews consistently says things like he makes the players around him better, which is a pretty bold statement in itself. When do you draw the line between confidence and arrogance, because Matthews has said some things that come off pretty confident. Not to mention there might be a language issue when interpreting what he truly means when he's giving an interview; he might not know how to nuance his statements in such a way that they don't come off cocky, but still come off as confident.
After 6 months of the world pumping their tires, that kind of praise makes it into their everyday lexicon i'm sure. - TheMussel
In general, Matthews quotes have been about what he does to make a team better or what his skills & attributes are. That is confidence in himself. Laine's quotes have been mostly about how better he is than another player or how he thinks he should be chosen higher. That is more arrogance to me.

Nice write up!
Stamkos is coming to Toronto IMO - but not for 9 to 9.5mill. I think he signs in the 10 to 10.5mill range. I see Buffalo and Detroit offering more money than the 10 to 10.5mill range that I think he will sign in Toronto for.
Basically, IMO, he may take a bit of a discount to play in Toronto but not at the 9 to 9.5mill range you suggested.
Can't wait to see him in a Leafs jersey. |

At this point, I am hoping he is a *good* goalie. I don't think he'll ever be elite either.
