Official expansion rules just released say players with full no-move clauses must be protected by teams; can't be exposed in expansion draft
Meaning Moulson can go! |

I agree that none of the defensmen in this draft are NHL ready, or any forward that would be available at #8 will be NHL ready either. I think Ghule will end up in Rochester this coming season. It would be nice if GMTM can find a workable trade to bolster our 'D' and speed up the process but with so many teams wanting to do the same thing it won't be easy. FA's goligoski and yandle are off the market now, brian campbell would be a good stop gap LHD if we could sign him for a few years while our youth developed but i don't see him wanting to come to a rebuilding team at this stage of his career.
So... I hope Mr Murray can work some magic in the next few days, it will be interesting to see how it all unfolds - SabresRush
Due to age, Ghule either has to do one more year in Jr's or make the Sabres. Which kind of sucks. Ideally, we would find a short term solution on our first pairing LHD. But i think the options are pretty limited. Campbell would be great, but if a team closer to contending (Chicago was mentioned a few pages back) made an offer, he might go for that to try to get his name on the cup one more time before retirement. Always liked Soupy.

I was hoping this was the way the rules would fall.
I dont even dislike Bogo, but I would be OK with trading him before his full NMC kicked in.
the only reason I would see Vegas taking Moulson is to fill cap space or because he has some semblance of a bounce back year. Nice to be able to expose him though.

Look at the records of expansion teams for the first 4 or 5 years, how is that not an advantage? |

I think we have a better chance at getting Stamkos than Moulson being selected. You're dreaming big my friend. |

It isn't necessarily that he would be selected (he won't). We aren't forced to protect him.

They have salary cap they have to hit.
If Moulson has a halfway decent year he would probably get selected |

Get the sense they could hit it without needing to pick Moulson. If the plan is to add a significant player on the back end and Stamkos close to 12 mil they've got to find a way to get rid of him in the next few days. Otherwise the dollars simply don't work |

I don't see how it has a massive impact on your ability to win a cup. You still have to beat the best 8 teams in each conference (not directly of course) so I don't really see how adding a bottom feeder really gives you an advantage at winning the cup.
Sure it might allow an 8th seed team to squeak in when they probably aren't playoff caliber, but if they aren't playoff caliber it will show and they will be eliminated. So again, I don't see how it makes Western conference teams more likely to win a cup.
You're basically saying it's unfair to the East that the West sucks so much (i.e., Western teams don't have to face as difficult of competition). Sorry, but I'm not feeling a whole lot of sympathy for the fact that Eastern teams got a massive head-start in development. |

It is a lot easier for the West. What place did Edmonton finish when they went to the SCF in 05-06? Oh yea, 8th. Playing 3 teams that just expanded within the last 6 years is the reason they made the playoffs.
But ehhh, its just facts. |

It's a possibility, but I would assume would be unlikely.
BTW, Any idea on if an AHL year counts towards a "2 year pro"? |

Which probably even makes their run more of an under-dog story.
At the end of the day the playoffs match-up the best team in the east vs the best team in the west. Whoever wins the cup is the better team, regardless of some bottom feeders one team played against in the regular season.
Your fundamental argument is it's not fair to teams in the East that teams in the West suck more often due to expansion. Half the teams in the west sucking due to expansion does not help the top teams in the west beat eachother nor does it help them beat the top team in the east. So again, what's your point? |

In terms of relative impact on winning a cup, yes, it is irrelevant and it's kinda a pathetic thing to gripe about. |

Las Vegas has to reach the salary cap floor for 2017-18. They'll have to take at least $48.3M in salary during the expansion draft.
Almost $50 million.
$2.5 million per player.
I really don't think those bigger contracts will be there. I say Moulson has a good chance of being selected |

Players like Josh Bailey with $3.3M AAV will help fill that need. There are plenty of those types around. I don't think spending $2.5M per player will be too hard. |

The NHL missed yet another opportunity. There's no live expansion draft. Vegas has to have their picks in by 6/20 and the picks will be announced 6/21. |

60% of $73M is $43.8M not $48.3M. |
