I think the best LD the sabres could expect to land in a trade is Vlasic - homiedclown
I highly doubt Vlasic is available. He was a beast for them in the playoffs. He was a big part of the reason they made it to the finals. |

I have a feeling the majority of trades will happen day 2 of the draft |

I don't know. With the expansion draft next year, I have a feeling we could see a really busy day 1 this year. |

Here's the direct quote from the Boston guy:
"here is the skinny on Vesey and it is a little bit strange. As of about two months ago he was about 100% locked to Boston. "That has changed dramatically. He was headed to Buffalo as of about 10 days ago from what I was told. A bit surprised that Buffalo actually traded a pick, but I guess they didn't want to take any chances. Yes he is very close with Eichel and that it a huge factor as to why it is going to be Buffalo, but not a factor as to why it wont end up being Boston. Now comes the strange part.
Yes, Vesey is close with Eichel and yes he is very tight with Grezelyk, as they grew up together. Unfortunately he also grew up with the Hayes brothers. Jimmy and his family are very unhappy with the way the season went, and they feel that, correct or incorrectly that Jimmy has taken a lot of heat from the media pundits, (newspapers and more frequently Michael Felger). they are probably being a bit oversensitive, but this is how they feel. They are very unhappy with the whole situation in Boston, and have frequently voiced their feelings to the Vesey family. The Bruins feel as though the Hayes poisoned the Bruins to the Vesey family, and that the Vesey's were dramatically influenced by it all. Crazy, but this is what it is. Irregardless of what his agent says, he is now almost a lock to sign with Buffalo.
Enjoy the draft and the summer everyone." - turbo044
Nice. It'll be very telling if Boston trades Hayes. |

I didn't realize that Barrie was playing 3rd line pairing minutes at the end of last year?
Says online their lines were
Beauch - Zads
EJ - Bigras
Holden - Barrie
Barrie was on top PP unit.
Maybe this was temporary while they were looking for balance but that doesn't scream to me that we should pay top dollar and expect him to play top pairing minutes with Risto either? |

The thing is the Sabres are wide open because we have very few players to protect.
Vesey
Eichel
Reinhart
Fasching
Bailey
Are all exempt.
So that leaves

I didn't mean the Sabres would be busy, I meant league-wide it would be busy.
We're actually in great shape when it comes to having to protect guys. Doesn't seem like there's going to be a great pool of players for Vegas to have a choice from out of Buffalo.

In all of the mock drafts done for LV... I don't know if I have seen them actually taking a single BUF player. I might have seen like Foligno or like Ruhwedel. |

Barrie was playing with EJ to end the year at times or he was playing with Holden on the 2nd pairing. Those lines are not the depth pairings just how they were rolled out to start the game.

We know that they are pretty good at finding their loop holes to make it work. They are reportedly shopping Kruger and Shaw this year.
Already traded Bickell and Teavo.
If they want it... they'll get it done. Soup will take a big pay cut to make it too. |

Much less talked about is not next year's expansion draft, but the year after to Seattle. All those players you mentioned that we are able to protect will be re-evaluated. Eichel and Sam will be available and need to be protected. Same with Stamkos or a top D if we get those this year. This expansion draft is easy, the next one is going to be the hard one for us.
Sidebar: The NHL really did QC a favor this year by not letting them expand. The hope is that the Canadian dollar will rebound so it'll be easier for them to pay any fees and they'll likely take a relocated team instead of an expansion team which could cost less and be more competitive. |
