Based on what? Because everyone keeps saying that? Goals for we were 26th. Goals against we were 16th. The offense played worse than the defense. You can't win games scoring 1 or 0 goals. The offense needs a lot more fixing when you have Foligno being depended on for points.
- Zschalberg

That's why all the Want Stamkos talk. Too many games we scored 1 or 0 goals. How many 1 goal games did we lose. some of the 2 goal games were empty netters.

The whole Anahiem team struggled offensively this year. Him running our PP would pad the stats a bit. I like him a hell of a lot more then Gorges on the first pair with Risto. Even if he is a 3-4 at best we are expecting Risto to be a bonafide #1 and Fowler is a lot better then whoever played with Letang this postseason or Seidenberg who was Chara's partner when the Bruins won their cup.
Fowler/McCabe-Risto
McCabe/Fowler-Bogo
Gorges-Nelson
Franson

- Pegullaville

The trouble is Risto was bad defensively this past year. He's still young and I expect he'll improve but I'd like someone who can help him defensively. Fowler isn't that guy. Fowler is a big upgrade from Gorges but I think we need more than just Fowler if we want to make the playoffs.

Some have said that Nylander is "too soft" for TM's liking but you can't have all Kane and ROR's in your top 6.

I still put my money on us taking Nylander or Keller.

- JVince11

Good thoughts Vince, thanks.

I've read before that Bob Murray has had an interest in Tyler Ennis and Nylander could replace him in the lineup. We need speedy wingers. We can always draft D men in the 2nd/3rd rds. Fowler fits in the interim.

And I still think Stamkos signs with us, just an opinion.

I would say with the Vesey addition, and the possibility of Stamkos, the Sabres would be good up front for now, and could focus on getting better at D. After all, 16th is still in the bottom half of the league

Word on the interwebes is that Anaheim offered Lindholm 4.5 AAV for 3 years and he said "Nah fam"

Could have to move him if he is demanding too big of money.

Direct quotes.... I swear. I golfed with his agent's dog's brother's Dad earlier today.

(but for real.. he turned down their latest and biggest contract offer)

They are what they are. What are they going to do differently that they haven't done the first 400 NHL games they have played? It's not really about age

And that's great. So get those guys, then worry about D. But neither of those guys are for sure here so until then I'm looking at the weakest part of our team and seeing "Foligno-Larsson-Gionta" as a "Scoring" line. That's just pathetic

To be honest expecting Fowler (6 seasons in NHL) or Bogosian (8 seasons in NHL) to magically improve or live up to their potential is just being incredibly optimistic. It isn't completely impossible but I'll take the safe bet and say they are what they are give or take an up year or two.

I agree. If we're going defensemen I want a defensive guy. Fowler is fine, but if we're going to spend let's spend on a guy who can play back and let Risto does what he does best with the puck

Chris Tanev would be a good option if he or Risto could play the left side.

C'mon bro....

You also said Shinkaruk and Nichuskin would be the absolute truth and you'd burn your jersies that we didn't draft them.

I was just being sarcastic.

I honestly believe that I'd rather have guys that can even each other out then a superstar trying to hold up a bum.

Doughty played w/ McNabb this year for christ's sake.
Chara would play with Siedenberg or whatever his name was.
Suter plays with Spurgeron.
Karlsson plays with Claesson (who the f*ck is that?)

Shea is about the only one that plays with the other 2nd best Dman on the team in Josi.

I am fine with
B+, A
B, B
B-, C+

It equals out.

This. I learned this lesson being a Tyler Myers fan.

They are what they are. Top 4 d men that do not make the players around them better.

Or they could improve slightly. Again not saying they are going to magically be top 2 d-men, but is it wrong to think that Player can improve and mature with games played and age.

Thinking that DMen don't get better with age and experience in addition to being with a constant partner on a constant team not worrying about trades or whatever.

That stuff plays a BIG role in improving. Years of experience especially with the same corps is HUGE.

Just my 2 cents.

We need a player who is more of a stay at home defenseman that won't pinch as often but have his back. Risto is capable in his zone, he's not a liability, but he does make mistakes. We don't need an all-star, we just need a good style and fit. The all-star would just be a bonus.
