We need a player who is more of a stay at home defenseman that won't pinch as often but have his back. Risto is capable in his zone, he's not a liability, but he does make mistakes. We don't need an all-star, we just need a good style and fit. The all-star would just be a bonus. - Zschalberg
I think I see one of those growing on the tree out back.... Let me go check it out.

Or they could improve slightly. Again not saying they are going to magically be top 2 d-men, but is it wrong to think that Player can improve and mature with games played and age. - ImThatGuy
Sure, I wouldn't doubt that happens. But it won't be to an extreme.
IMO a guy like Pysyk who is 23-24 years old and has only played 100 NHL games has a better chance at making a dramatic improvement (NOT SAYING HE WILL KAISER) than someone like Bogo/Fowler/Myers |

Or I have heard players say they didn't realize what it took to get to the next level until they turned 24+ because the grew up and matured. |

Sabres have hired Bob Woods as an asst coach. He worked under Bruce Boudreau for Ducks and Caps and also Hershey in the AHL. Coached Saskatoon last year in the WHL. |

I'm confused are you telling me he's a no name ? - GERBE!!!75PTS
I"m just saying that not every player needs to be an A++ All-Star Caliber, Norris contending, Lead the NHL in points type guy in order to be effective.
We need another guy who can log top 4 minutes and can help QB the PP. Fowler is that.
Obviously if we could get a Shea Weber or Doughty... We would.
I'm a HELLUVA lot happier with our all under 25 Risto, Fowler, McNabb, and Bogo than I would be with 34 year old Gorges logging 25 minutes a night next to Risto.
Give it a chance. |

That's what I am saying though. Not saying they are going to magically go from a top 4 d-man to a franchise guy. just that they are young enough where they can still trend up.
Maturity plays a lot in this imo. AKA growing up and realizing what it takes to get to the next level (IF you have it) |

Yeah, I'm positive that does happen. And maybe we could align the stars and have 3 defenseman in the same 6 all come to that realization at the same time. But I would rather not take that gamble.
Unfortunately I don't have a better answer for you though. Ennis + the 8th for Subban.... *ducks* |

If we can trade for Fowler and keep #8 that's a win-win.
edit- looks like Ennis or Girgs and a mid round pick for Fowler. |

I mean, I'm agreeing with you. Risto is good enough that I don't think we need the All-star partner next to him. Just one that plays more of a defensive game which is why they put Gorges next to him. So basically if we can get a better Gorges we should be fine. I don't know names or availability off the top of my head but it doesn't need to be the 6M/year guy. |

Put McCabe next to him then.
McCabe - Risto
Fowler - Bogo
Let Risto and Fowler have PP duties.
That would equal them out. Stay home with more offensive minded. |

I mean... if you know he is an offfensive guy... then you should expect that.
No one expected Nelson to be a physical force back there. Pysyk isn't a physical force.
You have guys that hit.. and you have guys who are offensive. Risto is both. McCabe has shown flashes of being both.
That's how I look at it.
We can trade for Oleksiak if we need a bowling ball (plz plz plz plz) |

Also this. Maybe I'm in the minority but I could see McCabe growing into a #2 role. I think those pairings are more than serviceable if you aren't icing a bunch of forwards who play no defense.

Both of our top lines have a two way center in ROR and Eichel. Our top line with also have Kane. Our 2nd line could have the likes of a Fasching/Bailey/power forward on it as well. Vesey is a 2 way player as well.
That is the outline that I fill whenever I do lines. You want a 2 way center, a power forward and a guy that buries the bisquit. |
