Sorry about misspeaking earlier. I didn't realize players on loan also went through the Import Draft. You know what they say about assuming.

Regardless, he was still under contract with his Swedish team when he played in the OHL (hence the loan). Effectively, Nylander was drafted out of Europe, not the CHL, despite playing in the OHL last year, so the Transfer Agreement does not apply to him.

Thanks. The majority of good players are drafted into every major league simultaneously. The KHL drafts everyone. So just being drafted into the CHL isn't the be all end all of AHL eligibility. Eichel was drafted into the CHL as well, but he never played for them so it was moot. But to add to the confusion Nylander played for the CHL team that drafted him.

Just meant it was closer then Tampa and enough for it to be a draw for him too. I guarantee he won't be looking up time differences between Buffalo and Detroit on which is closer to Toronto. They're both close to Canada in general

It takes 5 and a half hours to get to Detroit from Buffalo. Add at least another hour to get from Toronto to Detroit. But if you're talking about flight time then really any team from Chicago to Nashville to Washington to Boston to Montreal and all points in between would be a fit. That's a lot of teams.

Yes, it's closer than Tampa(Detroit) but they are on the downside. They are old. Big (frank)ing deal they make the playoffs every year. They haven't been out of the first round in years. And have barely made the past couple years.
