He's an ECHL goalie.

Make sure you quote that so we can come back to it in 2-3 years.

Methinks you need to look at his actual stats and not his reputation.
- Mononoke

Trading for a player you flat out won't protect is kind of weird. Even if the chances he gets plucked are slim.

I'm just...I'm surprised sometimes at how much these picks are valued.

They have value, of course -- I'm not saying it's good to just burn picks on whatever.

But the Flyers had 11 picks even before they traded down. That is a metric (frank)-ton of picks. You're telling me there's no way to move a pick for a player ANYWHERE?

That's what baffles me about this sport now. Teams hold onto picks like they are the last bit of drinking water on Earth, when the math shows that after the first few picks, then a cut of the first round, you are basically throwing darts at a board

It's good to have more darts than the guy next to you; basic math tells you that. But at the same time, better odds of basically nothing is still basically nothing, you know?

- AllInForFlyers

I really thought we would've seen some mid round picks moved to get rid of Read. Seems like Hextall is completely retooling the system tbh.

maybe hexy didn't have much faith in our current prospect pool outside of the obvious and gearing up for the expansion draft

Kuznetsov who some people wanted with our 2nd hasn't even been taken yet. Neither has Sokolov fwiw.

gotta say if I am another NHL team a mid round pick isn't going to make me take what Read has been over the last few seasons at that salary. my hope to get rid of AMAC or Read is expansion. fingers crossed

Outside of this thread Kuznetsov is ranked way lower than what most of us have him as. I expected him to be gone by round 4 while some had him going early in round two.

Flames take 5'7" Phillips. For all their Burke posturing, somehow they still take guys like him and Gaudreau.

You are what you are traded for...solid logic.

What was Hasek traded for?

An ECHL goalie traded for Nick Ebert. Whatever. I hope he's a success for his sake.

I had Laczynski on my list of faves as a potential 5th rounder. 62 points in 52 games as a young 19 year old in the USHL.

For reference, can anyone tell me what the equivalent of the package that BUF gave up for Kulikov would look like from the Flyers standpoint?

Good call on Laberge, Billy. What do we (you) know about Allison?
- Boyer83

He was mentioned in today's blog too. Power forward, heavy shot, rose in rankings in 2nd half.

Exactly -- something like that. As 2Real just noted, perhaps Hextall thinks that the system needs every single one of those picks, and it's his job to know that. I'm not necessarily praising or criticizing him.

I'm just...man. I like a good fourth-round success story as much as anybody. I love a good Patrick Sharp pick, a Jamie Benn pick, like everybody else.

But the reason those guys are good stories is because they are freaking rare -- who was picked one spot before Jamie Benn? Five? Ten? Who was picked right after? Five spots? Ten?

What makes Jamie Benn special isn't just that he's a great player drafted in the fourth round. It's how many fourth-rounders there are every single season before a Jamie Benn pops up

God, do I hate this draft coverage. You have no clue where they are or who was picked while they prattle on. Then an American player gets selected and they stop and devote half an hour to him.

Hexy definitely has a type today. I'm liking it. I imagine if even some of these guys pan out, it will make for a big tough fast team that plays from the back end out.

I don't want to go crazy, but Joe Pavelski was drafted in the 7th round as a 19 year old in the USHL coming off a 69 points in 60 games season.

We just drafted Lacyznski in the 6th as a 19 year old in the USHL coming off a 63 points in 52 games season.

Here's what Future Considerations has to say about him:

Laczynski is a power forward with a heavy scoring mentality. He has good touch with the puck and is comfortable making plays with the puck on his stick. He shows good vision setting up his teammates on the ice and uses his body to bash through checks down low. Laczynski works the cycle well and is capable of grinding out consecutive shifts without showing much wear. He is a smooth skater with a long stride, and decent speed and agility. He shows good hustle and is tenacious on the puck. Laczynski plays the body and supports the puck. He does all the little things well and is smart enough to know how he can contribute each shift. He protects the puck using his frame and strength. Defensively, he has solid awareness and gets into lanes aggres- sively. The Ohio State recruit was a ranked skater last year, but he went untouched in the draft and now takes a crack as a second-time eligible. He gained an inch and nearly 20 pounds last summer, enabling him to play stronger this season. He's not the ashiest guy on the ice, but he plays a heads-up game and gets to the areas of the ice that lead to success. Laczynski shows some positive upside, but would bene t from consistent effort in the defensive zone and gaining even more muscle to allow for better dominance along the wall and in the corners.

He'll come up small in big games though
