Hexy definitely had a plan today. he drafted a bunch of the same type of player. Two way guys with some size and projected offensive upside. You heard the term "three zone". "200 foot", gritty, tenacious, and "big" a LOT.
Im fine with this. - MBFlyerfan
I really like these forwards he drafted. |

I really like some of the picks today and a future team (3/4 years?) that looks like this has a good combo of everything although I'd still like to see a high skill winger added through FA signing or in next years first round of course:
Lindblom-Giroux-Voracek
Schenn-Courturier-Simmonds
NAK-Rubtsov-Konecny
Laughton-Cousins-Laberge
Provorov-Myers
Sanheim-Morin
Ghost-Gudas
Hagg-Alt
Mason
Stolarz
I think Rubtsov can come in and relieve some of the tough minutes that Coots has been facing if he is as good defensively as they say. That will give Courturier the opportunity to ramp up the offense. |

Pretty sure I personally never called for Lombardi's head over anything prior to their cup wins but ok. ( he flat out fleeced the Jackets and I've always said that fwiw)
You know what man, we've been through this numerous times. Ignore my posts. Teams trade prospects sometimes. Deal with it. This is a rumor site first and foremost. I and everyone else here can post what they choose. Don't like trade talk? Then you're on the wrong site.
And I'm serious. Ignore my posts from now on. The thread is yours for the rest of the night, as usual. - hereticpride
I worded that wrong, my apologies. I didn't mean you personally.
Part of trade talk for prospects or any other player is discussing reasons not to make trades |

The need for an (hate this word) "elite" replacement for Giroux is more and more evident.
I want them to be able to sorround the damn guy with skill so he doesn't have to carry the team on his back over and over. Hopefully this is a step closer. |

A lot of two-way center/winger types that project as depth roll players. So third/fourth liners. Pascal Laberge and Wade Allison could surprise though, especially Laberge who was the most valuable player at the CHL prospects game. They also drafted (arguably) the best goalie prospect available in Carter Hart and some depth Swedish blueliners...overall not the most exciting draft skill wise. |

Mason? - penguininnevada
Or Neuvirth. I think they're both good. I will say the Flyer goalie prospects look pretty elite after this draft. Stolarz, Lyon, Hart and Sandstrom all look great. Add in the wild cards of Madsen, Fedetov and Tomek and you have to think that they have an elite goalie of the future in there somewhere right? |

Sounds like we did okay, nothing groundbreaking but solid draft nonetheless.
I'll do some research on Laberge and Co. |

Hexy definitely has a type today. I'm liking it. I imagine if even some of these guys pan out, it will make for a big tough fast team that plays from the back end out. - MBFlyerfan
Didn't read thread...most of the selections' scouting reports seem to have a running theme of being competitive kids with a hunger for the puck and the strength and tenacity to get in there and win battles. The team definitely needs that to improve their forecheck and backcheck game. |

And all but one of them are considered strong skaters. And the one that isn't has been a productive player. |

Meh. I can just as easily ask how many 5'7" players manage to get projected as high as he did? Two way street. Flyers had three picks and they choose to take the big gamble on a goalie instead of a skill forward. I don't think goalie was that huge of a need for us right now to burn a 2nd on. - hereticpride
Hart has nothing to do with Grimaldi, uh, I mean DeBrincat who was taken 9 picks before him.
Laberge is a skill forward the Flyers liked more than the midget. |

Rubtsov + Laberge was awesome (for Logan Stanley! OMG)....I'm warming on Allison. Partly out of necessity given that he is our boy, and partly because he actually has an interesting power forward skill set, with plus skating and hands. His reel is impressive. Not a fan of goalies in the 2nd, but they nabbed the consensus top goalie. They drafted BPA with Hart no doubt. I'm always down with BPA. Being able to steal Laberge too probably made them more comfortable selecting Hart. The value was just too good to pass up in their eyes.
Twarynski loses me. Bunnaman could actually be an interesting depth forward that isn't ill fit around there. Obviously he is your "bleeds intangibles" type, but his primary p/60 was very very high and he was buried by usage. Hogberg and Bernhardt are you late round lottery ticket Swedish d men with a lot of skill and production. Love that. Laczynski was an actual fave for me for 5....got him at 6. He has a good ceiling. Salinitri has a lot of speed and some skills, but can't get a read on him.
I'm pretty happy overall. The late rounders helped balance out that 3rd rounder. - Mononoke
He seems like the one obvious reach, but they watched him all season thanks to Sanheim and Fazleev, and Hexy raved about him:
“A prototypical power forward. We knew we needed to add some size and grit. Our guys to a man all liked him. Terrific character and work ethic with a nice set of skills, too. He’s not just a bottom-end guy.” |

He did have 20 goals, so there's something there. He does like to drop the gloves...so there's that, too |

We will see. I do trust that they wouldn't take a 4th line energy guy in the third. He was only 1 point off the team's ES scoring lead. He also was a weapon on the PK...6th in league in points; 4th in goals. I'm not against a couple low ceiling, high floor picks scattered through the draft....while I don't like garbage that seems destined to 4th line/tweener/AHL land, a couple guys with 3rd line potential and skillsets, maybe even w/ versatility to bounce around the lineup (think Raffl) is a realistic necessity.
3rd just feels early to me. There were some solid players that went between him and the next pick. And some really solid players that went immediately before him. Maybe could've used one of the 4ths to move up |
