Time for a new GM. I wish NHL GM's had the ability to know right away how good a draft is, like the fans do. - MJL

I guess my main concern was that the team needed young, high end skill and they still haven't really added that yet. - PhillySportsGuy
I want someone electric. Laberge is high end skill though. Rubtsov is awesome. I was happy with both picks. I trust Flyers Q scouting, especially with early picks.
Allison...he has a good ceiling too. Watch his reel if you want. He can skate and has good hands. He is no lumbering PWF. But I cannot deny I wanted Abramov or Dahlen or Bitten. I want someone with dazzling skill. |

I haven't seen any of them play, so I reserve judgment on all of them, really
If they can skate at a pro level, let's start there. These are second, third and fourth-rounders -- I want pure skill, too, but taking a 5-7 guy who might never be strong enough to finish in the league doesn't outweigh taking a talented goalie, to me |

Colangelo had a better draft than Hexy - PhillySportsGuy
Debatable. I like the length, skating, tenacity angle hexy is drafting. I don't think the pens rooks that helped lift a cup (rust, kuhnackle) had limitless offensive potential when drafting drafted. I'm down with players that are out there taking away time and space |

I guess I'm just upset they didn't package some picks to move up too. We'll see what happens. It's not like we really know what they'll be yet. I just don't think they took anyone with high potential. It seems like if these guys max out, they're probably just middle 6 guys. |

They have Crosby, Malkin and Letang in their primes. Giroux, Simmonds and Voracek will be hitting 30 when these guys start to make an impact.
Also, those Penguin rookies are mostly undersized, speed/skill guys. |

i expect giroux to contribute into his 30s voracek i'm still trying to figure him out after last season simmonds will be good as long as he doesn't take a puck off the face |

Rubtsov and Laberge have top 6 potential imo. Laberge is a huge wildcard. Plethora of skill, but still working on his game and doesn't have much help on his team. He's not that safe of a pick tbh.
Allison is a middle 6 type, but he can skate and puckhandle -- other PWFs in that range they're questionable in that. Givani Smith who the Wings took before has legit lead feet. The other one Tarcysnki or w/e is pure bottom 6. At least we didn't take him #29 |

My thing with goalies is this: Take them where you have them rated, and don't look back
There is nothing more demoralizing than having a goalie at the NHL level who simply can't get to a .915. In today's era, you have got to have that kind of goalie or better, and while there are certainly variances from year to year for those outside the Top 10 or so, you should never lull yourself into complacency by undervaluing pure talent at that position
I wouldn't blink if they took a goalie in the first round, if that's where they have one rated |

Lots of ways to skin the cat -- if they can think the game well enough, move well enough, they will have some value at some point

I'm warming to the Laberge pick, would have taken the Cat personally. He could very well be the Johnny Hockey of this draft. But the scouting staff has a history of finding gold in that general area so I'm optimistic. Now the Wade pick? With Abramov still on the board? Not overly enthusiastic. |

Bunnaman, Connor LC - Kitchener Rangers (OHL) 6'01" 207
HockeyProspect.com Ranking: 132
Bunnaman was selected in the second round of the 2014 OHL Priority Selection Draft by the Kitchener Rangers out of the Guelph Jr. Gryphons Minor Midget program. Bunnaman made the team as a 16 year old and did an excellent job playing a bottom six role with the team and developed well last season. This year he didn't show the same progress as his first season but with most forwards returning he played a similar role this year.
Bunnaman has great size and although he doesn't possess much of a mean streak, he is a tenacious forechecker and will finish the hits required of him. He does a good job getting into passing lanes and taking away time and space. Positionally sound two-way forward. Bunnaman has an awkward skating stride but gets ok speed after his first few steps. He protects the puck well down low and is effective at cycling the puck. His positional awareness is very good. Bunnaman has a good shot but his overall offensive ability is average at best. Defensively Bunnaman plays his biggest impact. He gets down and blocks shots he takes away options and breaks up chances.
Connor has upside as a very solid two-way player at the NHL level. He does all the things right to be a role player but lacks the skill to be a big impact player. The team that selects Bunnaman at the 2016 NHL Entry Draft is getting a player who will be excellent on the cycle, take away passing lanes and can play an effective penalty killing role. |

The theme is getting obvious: good size, 2-way play, tenacious forechecking, low ceiling |

Not a fan of the goalie thing either. Not against taking goalies in the second round, but they have strong depth and history shows that taking goalies in the 3rd-5th round is normally the best way to maximize draft picks. - PhillySportsGuy
I'm ok with taking one of the top 3 goalies there. You can never have enough high end goalie prospects. They may possibly lose Stolarz in the expansion draft, one of the picks last year didn't play a single game, and Mason and Nuivy are both free agents after this year. I know they have a couple of other promising ones like Sandstrom, Lyon, and maybe even the Harvard kid so I understand your point but thinking longerm to find a superstar goalie works for me

They're drafting forwards. Can't complain. They got the best goalie prospect thrown in. Can't complain |
