I think the rest of this week is going to be real interesting.
I can honestly say that I have no clue what the Rangers are going to do. If you believe what the pundits were saying at the draft, the Rangers were talking about a huge contract with Stamkos. I still think that is unlikely, but if Stamkos gives any indications that he's interested, we could see a major upheaval this week.
Even if he isn't, however, I still see a pretty significant re-set happening, with the Rangers trading some of their more valuable assets to re-load the asset cupboard, and then replacing the departures through unrestricted free agency. |

Exactly, Pete. How many draft picks with high hopes never make it to the NHL? Have to take the player with the highest potential and hope for the best.
Rettinger's scouting report reads like Kreider's to me. |

Old school Rangers would be like (1990's-2003) sign Stamkos, Lucic & Martin, over paying for all. |

there has never been a chance to sign a 26 year old free agent who has already scored 60 goals
nothing but money, I am definitely in the camp of do whatever it takes to get it done |

Any reason why the Rangers are not looking at Ben Love-Joy and Matt Martin to upgrade their D and 4th line? |

The NHL Draft is such a crap shoot probably more so than any other sport. You try your best but it is what it is.
No need to examine it, as it all plays out 2-5 years later.
There have been plenty of massive busts in the top end (Daigle, Brendl, Patrick stefan, Jessiman..lol)and TONS of steals late (Hank anyone?) and undrafted players that become Hall of Famers (Ed Belfouor, Mart St. Luis, Adam Oates, CuJo, Dino ciccarelli, etc.) |

I totally understand your point, but like you said, so many guys in the third round amount to nothing. I think once you get past the second round, I am all for throwing caution to the wind, and swinging for the fences with draft picks.
I also think that we don't have the ability to really evaluate third-seventh round picks as fans. Those are really scouting department type picks, and you have to just trust the organizations' scouts to pick who they like and who they thing has some upside.
I mean let's be honest, not many of us know the potential of a fourth round draft pick from Finland. Not directing this at you, just in general. - Pete V
I am in that camp too...but 29 teams did pass on him...so its not as if us as fans are just throwing darts at it. Obviously if he hits it will be incredible for them. I just dont think he is really the "top 5 talent" "generational talent" kinda guy anymore. Hes just another third rounder with an exciting ceiling |

She is a cutie...his son Gunner btw has done quite well with the Systic Fibrosis, I remember reading back 20 years ago when he was on the Jets his son only had about a 50/50 chance to even make it to 18. |

I do like Ronning. His scouting report and highlights have him doing these things. Going to the net, getting engaged physically despite his size and scoring goals. |
