It does not fit with the Rangers DNA to have a guy like Stamkos hit the open market, and the Rangers not to be all in on him. I realize what it would take to make that happen by way of roster upheaval, but if they get an indication that he's in, it's going to be a crazy week.

If you start seeing deals like Stepan to Minnesota for Dumba, and Girardi to wherever for whatever, that might give you some indication about where they think they stand with Stamkos. I also think that Nash isn't definitely a goner in the unlikely event they sign Stamkos, because they may like the idea of playing those two together. But they would have to go cheap elsewhere.

Yea that is my thought process all along. If Stepan is traded I am 80% sure its because of Stamkos

Kreider's agent will point out that Forsberg sucks in the playoffs

But, keep in mind that if they are going to make Stamkos work, they can't retain salary in deals. They need to find homes for some guys without having to keep some of their salary, so Gorton has some work to do.

I'm REALLY starting to have second thoughts about Stamkos. Between the broken leg and the blood clots, are these signs of a player who might constantly be dealing with health issues and not always being 100% healthy? Does a long term contract scare anyone else when you sit back and think about it?

And I say this with FULL disclosure that I think he is the best player in the league, best pure scorer and would LOVE to see him on Broadway, but I'm getting second thoughts, and I hate it.

The fact that Gorton said he is really close on a few moves, IDK I think things are about to get crazy

Pretty cut and dried, if they move out a few contracts this week, get ready for the Stamkos sweepstakes with the Rangers being heavy favorites.

Rangers will point out Forsberg has had season of 26 and 31 goals, 63 and 64 points in those seasons.

Yeah, I think the Rangers are working the phones harder then RD's mom's 1-900#. I just have a feeling we are going to see pretty much the same team as last year.

Or maybe I just convinced myself so that I can't be disappointed.

Well with the UK leaving the EU, he won't be getting that raise.

We'll see fairly soon, I guess.

I will say this. If you are looking to re-load, rather than rebuild, trading some of your valuable assets for younger players/picks, and then replacing the player in the UFA market isn't a bad path.

The only raise he sees is when he watches his older sister in the shower.
