Schenn for Shattenkirk?
If they can get him signed maybe.
Would be great to do Read and a 1st for Shattenkirk but that is delusional. |

Forsberg is a core player and a franchise level winger. He is, as you said, a 21 year old, who in both his first 2 seasons has outscored Schenn in his career year. He's a better ES scorer and possession player too. A much more prolific shooter as well.
They shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence (his agent will no doubt). I don't care what $$$ amount Schenn gets, so long as the contract is kept to 3 years. - Mononoke
Three years is a really bad length for a 40-60 point, 25 year old forward with two RFA years left. A one year arbitration deal would make more sense for the Flyers. |

Glad you showed up...I thought you might have Tommen'ed after spending all that time scouting prospects just to watch Hextall pass by all of them - YuenglingJagr
He actually picked several of my favorites on my list. Most of the guys on my list got drafted where I pegged them, and a few went a couple picks before the Flyers went up. My list was sound ty.
The fun is seeing what happens in a few years anyway. |

For some reason I thought it was one year left. You're right -- that's preferable. |

Just saying it sounds like your issue is with a team in Arizona itself, and not the contract loophole.
If they Flyers had an awful year and just started picking up assets by taking on cap space...would you be against it? - YuenglingJagr
Absolutely because it screams of a mismanaged team. They have the contracts but don't have to pay out because they can't afford to. It's welfare disguised as, well, shoot, it's not even disguised.
What about teams that take bad contracts in trades at the deadline?
It's different if they still have a payroll obligation to the player/contract that they take.
Its just another example of GMs using the tools available, and I think there are more important issues to worry about. With the difference between rookies and vets in AAV...spending more money on players doesnt actually guarantee that they are better....so signing andrew ladd for 10 million AAV isnt going to make them relevant.
They were competitive for a bit this year with rookie contracts
Yes, it's an available tool. I know this. I just think it's a crappy tool and shouldn't be available.

Counterpoint: frontloading contracts was just GMs using tools available to them, until it was suddenly a violation of the rules when NJD did it. This isn't just trading cap space, this is arguably circumventing the cap floor, and not by a little. - BulliesPhan87
Exactly. There isn't a rule expressly prohibiting it, so they use it, but that's really what it is. |

I disagree for all the reasons I already listed - YuenglingJagr
The only thing that matters, are issues of money, and the revenue split. The mountain that the battle was fought over, was the 50/50 split. So everything should be looked at from that perspective. The league doesn't want money outside the system, and player salaries higher than cap hits. The players want to be paid for what they negotiated for. All of these loopholes, or a better name for them is flaws, skew that. What did escrow reach last season, 16% I think. If that remains the same, that means a player like Brayden Schenn, who is negotiating a new deal, say for 5M a year, is really only going to be paid 4.2M a year in that deal. |

I wasnt trying to say the issues were one in the same...it just got roped in with the argument that the hoophole takes money from other players - YuenglingJagr
Because it does. |
