I really think it has less to do with the team and more to do with the city. I get it, we love it, but it's really nothing special and compared to a lot of places it's a lot worse. We have more decayed buildings than we do people and it's not the marquee destination.

i am sure that has some to do with it.... but until recently that wasn't an issue in Detroit. it can be overcome

Then that's fine. We've gone nearly 50 years not being the free agent destination, I don't think it matters too much whether it changes or not. Raising the cost of the free agents that don't come here just makes the other teams pay more.

It may be a great place to raise a middle class-family, but for millionaires, especially young ones, it is not a destination city.


That said, winning would cure a lot of those issues.

My hot take:

We might sign Stamkos. We might not. Either way we won't know until July 1st. Either way we move forward. I think having the draft here could not have come at a better time. We made a heck of an impression an analysts, draftees, organizations and through word of mouth, players. The hockey community is small and tight-knit. Whether it's this summer, next summer or beyond we are slowly shedding the former perception of our town.

I love Buffalo, it is where i grew up, but i can absolutely see this being true. Buffalo the city has a bad rap, and as was mentioned, the Team was known for being Cheap and stingy. Darcy was also very disliked from what people say.

We shall see. I'm not holding my breath on becoming a destination regardless of the on ice performance. Might not be as resistant to come to Buffalo, but still won't be a destination.

Toronto is the bigger city with the bigger franchise history..

both buffalo and Toronto have a solid young core that could be great soon.

i think it comes down to if he wants to play in Toronto under the microscope or play in Buffalo and be hated by his hometown.
