Better, as in Stamkos would prefer to live in Toronto because its a better city. - Arctic_AARDVARK
i just don't see how that is that big of a factor..
he can easily have a house in TO for the summer and longer breaks and still play for buffalo.. During the season he is on the road all the time or playing/practicing. i don't think the city plays that big of a roll |

Nylander will end up being better than Reinhart..
Matthews> Eichel
Rielly> Risto
its really close but with the Leafs depth id have to go with Toronto.. And once we sign Stamkos it wont even be close. - Arctic_AARDVARK
I think everyone would be happy if nylander is better then reinhart |

Really? Matthews hasn't played a game in the league and he's gonna be better than Eichel when all the scouts or at least most said if he was 3 days older Matthews would have went 3rd last year. - Stripes77
Nah, most had Matthews going higher. |

we have some posters who remember wining the cup.. thats more than any sabres fan can say...
this is a stupid arguement you guys always bring up. 1967 blah blah.. uhh yeah you guys have just as long as a drought going too. - Arctic_AARDVARK
False. The last time you won a playoff series 03-04. Our last is 06-07
I don't give a (frank) about your posters who remember it. They're not deciding where to play in the NHL the only current history the leafs have is being a joke of the NHL. The're trying to save the teams legacy and maybe they will but you have no reason to talk about being a solid NHL franchise when you guys have been a joke since before boy bands were cool |

New topic: When is the prospects tourney and who is eligible to go? Are Jack/Sam too old or have they already done a year so they can't? |
|

I don't see it as a flaw, it doesn't hurt us in any way. He raises the prices and then they don't come here. That hurts other teams, not us. - Zschalberg
It's not a good thing. It's inflation for the sake of inflation. It's disruptive to the process and has consequences league wide. Not major ones, but it affects the market place. You also have to wonder if it affects the Sabres image.

Your last sentence is key:
who wouldn't want to sign a former 60-goal scorer in his prime
Fact is, he hasn't gotten remotely close to 60 goals throughout the past 3 seasons.
Between that, and the fairly serious injuries he's sustain over the past few years, I just don't know.
Look, if we get him, I'll be excited as much as the next fan.....BUT, I also think it might be best if we let someone else take on this albatross of a cap hit.
Signing Stamkos could also have unforeseen implications for signing Eichel after his ELC and later his RFA period ends.
Here's a scenario:
Eichel develops rapidly and is equal to or surpasses Stamkos by the last year of his ELC. Eichel sees what we're willing to pay ($12M) for that type of player and how could one argue he isn't entitle to that type of payday also? As Eichel becomes RFA, we tender a qualifying $7.5 which is probably the norm for a young superstar type on their first contract. Eichel then gets offersheeted for $10M or more which leaves Buffalo royally F'ed!.....there's no way a team can survive and be successful long term with multiple >$10M contracts on the books.
THIS, the effect and expectations it will establish for our own prospects/rookies is what scares me the most about signing a UFA to this much $$. |

You can't put the word you're defining in the definition.. They teach you that in grade 3. You could say because it's a larger city with more to do or because its hockey market is larger and he'd be more recognizable but you just said "better". This is some weak ass poop right here, I don't even know if you're trying anymore. - Zschalberg
A) im not trying, im arguing with Yankees, trying would put me on your level..
B) Its better for so many reasons.. More to see and do (jays, raps, wonderland, etc), better cuisine, better condos, higher quality of life.. |

why?
what do you see Nylander becoming? - Arctic_AARDVARK
What do you see Reinhart becoming? He was a 2nd overall pick put up 23 goals and 42 points in his rookie season. He has hockey sense equal to Marchand and is only going to improve his game.
I picture Nylander being a solid second line player but being as impactful to the game as Reinhart. Reinhart and Marner have equal potential levels not Reinhart and Nylander |

playoff series wins is how define success?
and your last one was 07??
The Leafs are the NHL.. without the Leafs, there would be no NHL, or Sabres.. |

Marner has much higher potential than Nylander.. Marner might end up being better than Matthews.. He put up McDavid like numbers this year in the CHL.. Reinhartis nowhere near Marner in terms of ceiling.. now, i was being nice when i said Nylander is comparable to Reinhart.. If he played a full season he would have put up more than 42pts.. he would have been closer to Eichels numbers.. |

But it's about the city, and it's as simple as that? Which is it? - sbroads24
Before even with the draw of Toronto as a city/hockey market players would stay away because they knew what a poop show the organization was. Thats no longer a deterring factor. |
