Points per 60:
Kane - 3.8
Benn - 3.25
Tarasenko - 2.98
Kucherov - 2.82
Ovechkin - 2.66
All players I would take over Hall.
Hall 2.48 - ImThatGuy
You could argue that any of those guys is better than Hall, but you are only doing so subjectively. When you measure out the stats, it's pretty clear they are all really close - except Kane who's lack of defense kills him and puts him a tier below. All of them are awesome players and you wouldn't trade any of them for Travis Hamonic. |

Why wouldn't you trade Hall? If he can get you some return that you need (and he would) they should do it. They have enough Forwards--multiple years of number one picks who haven't panned out like they thought.
The Oil should try to build around McDavid--starting with signing Lucic, who can bring a physical/skilled/veteran presence to a corp of young guys that have no guidance. |

Stop. Hall is the best 30 goal scorer to never score 30 goals. - rangerdanger94
Wow totally way wittier the second time. |

I am now fully convinced you are just pulling peoples chain. There is no way franson is a top 60 dman. No way you really believe that. - rinaldo
He's been messing with people for over a year now and you're one of the biggest idiots on here that fall for it every single time
How many hours of your life have you wasted "arguing" with James? |

The Oilers need to read some of my old blogs so they can understand that last year they sucked mostly because of injuries.
They said they stopped reading 3 years ago when your blogs proclaimed them as definitely making the playoffs.....and then again 2 seasons ago......and then again, well...you get the idea |

How about the reputation that Hall consistently misses time every year, and always will because of the style he plays?
You don't think a #1 D man who rarely if ever misses games or rarely if ever plays less than 25-27 minutes isn't more valuable? Come on - sbroads24
I don't. I would not trade Hall for Doughty. Also, Hall played all 82 games last year and Doughty scored at a lower rate than Dan Giardi. |

What is they can get some first rounders for him? The Oilers are all about drafting. |

I find that laughable. Don't you consider defensive ability in your rankings? Did you even look anything up, or just go by total points? Don't answer that, we both know the answer. - James_Tanner
So what I'm getting from the series of Tanner blogs recently is this:
There is no amount of good defensive play that can make up for Karlsson scoring 31 more points than Doughty, and Karlsson is the superior player by a wide margin.
Kane is far worse than Hall, despite scoring 41 more points than him, because Hall has superior defensive play. |
|
|
|
OF course you and a lot of people would, because you don't care about measuring performance and just base everything off of a combination of EA sports ratings and general reputations. - James_Tanner
Actually the EA sports guys probably know more about hockey than you, so I would go with what they say. I get it, in your world the most points equates to the best overall player. If you were blogging back when Cheecho scored 50 goals, you probably would have anointed him one of the Top 5 forwards in the world
Chiarelli couldn't get Hall on a plane fast enough if the Kings offered Doughty for Hall. Then again he is a GM of a professional hockey team, and you are just a shock blogger. |

No, I don't think it's really close either. I would way rather have the two-way game of Taylor Hall. Also, I think Hall doubles as a decent human, so there's that. - James_Tanner
So now Hall has a two-way game. Better inform the rest of the league.

The whole blog is a contradiction:
- He says that only an idiot would trade Hall
- He says that he wouldn't trade Hall
- But yet that comment alone proves that Tanner is a complete idiot. |

Which based on his career is an outlier.
Hall is excellent. I would even agree he is a top 3-5 winger. But I can't wrap my head around not seeing Doughty as 10x the need for the Oilers.
Also last two years I have
Girardi - 2015- .63 p/60 2014 .66
Doughty .72 p/60 2014 .90 p/60

Haha. Good call. For the record, I have nothing against the Oilers, but they have done an awful job developing the multiple first picks they've had. I think McDavid will be the one dude that will be the guy they have built him up to be. |

James meant the scoring rate when adjusted for 5v5 situations, in close games, on the East Coast, before Daylight Savings Time, when the temperature in the arena is below 70 degrees, on partly cloudy days. |

Does seem a little contradictory.
However, it's a little different comparing forwards and defenseman. Also, we know that Kane is extremely sheltered, and Karlsson isn't really.
Also, Karlsson is really good defensively. Kane, not so much.

Definitely difficult to read when people take everything literally and don't have a sense of humour at all. Plus, don't you know, if someone doesn't agree 100% with everything you previously think, they're an idiot. |
