I understand saying that a player who is younger would have more trade value or maybe will be better. But you were saying Hall is better flat out. - kevndevries
In my opinion he is. If I was starting a team right now, I'd rather have Hall than Benn.

Yakupov has no real trade value, so might as well put him next to McDavid and let him score 40 goals.
I don't see why they even have to trade a forward. If they sign Lucic, they have the best forward group ever assembled in NHL history and that isn't a joke or an exaggeration.
Hall- RNH - Eberle
Lucic - McDavid - Yakupov
Pujar..not even gonna try that one yet - Draisatil - Pouliot
I mean, that is a terrifying linup.
Why not trade Nurse (lots of potential, but pretty lousy so far) and a couple firsts for Shattenkirk or whoever you need? Then sign Zack Redmond and Jason Demers as UFAs and you have a really good D when you add in Klefbom, Sekara and Davidson. - James_Tanner
In History???
Consider this, Ron Francis, Jagr, and Lemieux all played together and after those 3 legends Joe Mullen, Mark Recchi, and Kevin Stevens (who wasnt great throughout his career but those early 90s teams he was very good.) Likely 5 hall of famers...give me a break that the Oilers could have the best forward group ever. I wouldnt even say they have the best today. Yea that lineup has a lot of potential but please. Outside McDavid who do you think will reach the level that Jagr, Francis or Lemieux?
This has to be a joke right? No one can be this far from reality
Doughty is pretty overrated
INCORRECT , there are lots of better defenseman.
INCORRECT I wouldn't trade Hall for Doughty.
THIS MAKES YOU AN IDIOT Hall will help you win more games.
INCORRECT
Nice appeal to the masses though, great argument strategy. - James_Tanner
Do you EVER actually watch the game, or just pour over the stat sheets?
Also, I may not have fancy stats to back this up, but I fail to understand how a #1 left winger will win you more games than a #1 defenseman. In the entire history of the game left wing has proven, for whatever reason, to be the least pivotal position.
...wait, here's a fancy stat for you: out of the top 100 scorers all-time, 11 are LW and 9 are D. Which ones do you think were more important to their teams?

Ok but that has to do with the future more than the present. If I am starting a team right now and get anyone in the league, I am taking McDavid hands down.
The better question to ask would be..If you get to have this player or that player for 1 season right now, who do you take?

yeah im in agreement that a minute-devouring possession-driving defenceman is a more impactful player than a playmaking winger like Hall.
No, I don't think it's really close either. I would way rather have the two-way game of Taylor Hall. Also, I think Hall doubles as a decent human, so there's that. - James_Tanner
Oh Jesus! We've just landed the plane in absurdity captain, what are your orders??

Appreciate it and you know I can't help myself.
But - if you need some help, look up a hero chart comparison between Crosby and McDavid. Then, get yourself a big binder or try to think about your gramma. - James_Tanner
"The oilers are a lucic away from the greatest group of NHL forwards ever assembled. Just look up a hero chart!"
Yeah but it's hard to take people seriously who rate their players off total points, don't consider defensive contributions and don't like Cody Franson as at least the 60th best defenseman in hockey!! - James_Tanner
There are at least 100 dmen better than Franson. There are like 7 on the Ducks alone.
While I'd take hall first as I think he brings a few more facets to the game, hall and jg are interchangeable at 3/4 and right there behind benn and ovie for best in the league on the left side.
